First Impression

Prior to the Classic Fusion, my only exposure with Hublot is with the Big Bang which was so popular back in 2005 that it brought the ailing brand back to life. While I do think that the Hublot Big Bang is a feat in watchmaking, its busy and bold aesthetic is not for me.

The release of the Classic Fusion changed all that.

The Hublot Classic Fusion Titanium looks more demure and contemporary when compared to the Big Bang. I got some homework done and it’s clear that Hublot drew some inspiration from their early watches from the 1980s. At 45mm and with just a simple date window, it’s about as straightforward as you can get with a Hublot timepiece.

Unboxing the Hublot Classic Fusion Titanium was such a pleasure. I have had watches that have a more premium price point than this model but this packaging blows them out of the water. The attention to detail is astounding and it even comes with USB authentication and you can register the watch over at Hublostista.com.

As for the watch itself, the no-nonsense approach is what makes it so interesting. Although it’s indeed a subtle and softer Hublot, the Classic Fusion Titanium is clearly a well-made watch. The 45mm wide case has me worried but it’s really not that bad unless you have a smaller wrist.

The simple crown and muted matte black dial add a great deal to the premium feel of the timepiece. The “H” screws on the bezel provide the much-needed Hublot hallmark.

Simplicity is where it’s at, and the Classic Fusion Titanium does a fine job without looking too plain and dull.

Case: Size and Construction

As I have mentioned, the 45mm wide case is usually at the higher spectrum of my comfort zone. However, one thing that I really like about the Classic Fusion Titanium is its slimness. Actually, I think Hublot did a great job with setting the slimness against the wide case of the watch. If you think 45mm isn’t for you, the Titanium is also available in three other sizes: 42-38-33 mm.

The polished titanium case looks great and I was surprised that it even looks better in person. The case gives that refined look which is a nice surprise coming from a brand that tends to go for louder design choices. The six H screws significantly help in achieving that trademark Hublot brand look. While the unaligned screws may annoy some people, I enjoyed the fact that they are not evenly aligned.

The imperfect placement of the screws adds a great deal of personality to the piece. The faceted lugs along with the porthole aesthetic complete the overall look of the Titanium. The mix of polish and vertical brush finishes keep things interesting. The transparent caseback shows the beautiful movement which is always something I enjoy.

One complaint that I have is with the watch’s ability to ward off scratches and cuffs. Although Hublot claimed that they used grade 6 titanium, I was surprised that it already has tiny scuffs on the bezel only after a few hours of wear. It’s hardly a big deal but it can be a deal-breaker for some collectors.

Dial: Simplicity is Its Strength

I’ve been going about how simple the Titanium is but that doesn’t mean that it’s not stylish at all. On the contrary, this is one good-looking timepiece.

The black dial with the satin finish gives us the best of both worlds of being elegant and sporty. The dial throws light all over the place and is further enhanced by the Rhodium-plated hands and appliqués – both design elements are polished and faceted.

At 12 o’clock you will see both Hublot logos and the date window sits at 3 o’clock. The stylized Automatic label is positioned at 6 o’clock. Again, these elements are all basic and nothing to write home about but they are all well-done and symmetrical. You got to love those clean lines.

If you are looking for a similar watch with more pizzazz to it, the pricier Hublot Classic Fusion Power Reserve Titanium is certainly worth the look.

One thing that I really appreciate about the dial is its rich texture. This is where Hublot’s attention to detail pays off. From the hour markers to the hands, everything about the dial just screams textured – it’s oddly satisfying.

The dial is far from perfect though. My main issue with the Titanium is legibility. When it’s bright out, the watch suffers from legibility issues. In low light conditions, you’ll wish that the hands and hour markers are lumed for increased legibility.

Movement: Gets the Job Done

Hublot Classic Fusion Review Movement

The Hublot Classic Fusion Titanium is powered by the self-winding movement HUB1112. It’s interesting to note that this movement is based on the automatic Sellita caliber SW300-1 movement which is also used in brands like Baume et Mercier and Bell and Ross pilot watches.

While the Classic Fusion uses a derivative movement, there’s nothing to be concerned about since the Sellita has been proven to be accurate and reliable. Hublot succeeds in finishing the movement to their own standards and even added their own in-house date module (only the 45mm version).

The lack of a pure in-house movement doesn’t really bother me personally. Keep in mind that the Titanium is an entry-level model. With that said, even the staunchest movement snob will begrudgingly agree that the Sellita is a rock solid movement.

Wearability: Undeniable Wrist Presence

The Hublot Classic Fusion Titanium comes in two types of bracelet: the alligator strap and rubber strap which is fondly referred to as “gummy strap.” Surprisingly, the strap is one of my most favorite things about this Classic Fusion package.

The rubber-backed alligator strap is my go-to for dressier events. The leather is sewn into the rubber lining which not only adds to the overall appeal of the watch, it’s quite comfortable as well. I was expecting some stiffness from the strap but I was pleasantly surprised.

For my daily wear, the rubber strap works great especially when you’re shooting for a sportier look. Both straps are very easy to adjust. The addition of the Hublot logo at the buckle is another detail that I enjoy. I have to applaud Hublot for paying great attention to detail to the straps.

It really feels like you’re wearing a premium timepiece.

Many people are saying that Hublot does wrist presence well. I am happy to confirm that particular feedback on account of personal experience. I have lost count of the number of compliments I’ve received while wearing the Titanium. It’s indeed a watch that you can easily wear in a variety of settings.

It’s just a good-looking, stylish piece through and through.

Pricing

As mentioned several times in this review, the Hublot Classic Fusion Titanium is an entry-level model. With that said, I think Hublot nailed the pricing for the Titanium.

If you are looking to give Hublot a well-deserved try, the Titanium is the perfect gateway piece. If you don’t fancy the black dial, the Classic Fusion Titanium Opalin and Classic Fusion Blue Titanium are good alternatives.

In comparison, the limited editions and high-end models of the Classic Fusion are easily triple or quadruple the vanilla Titanium. For instance, the Classic Fusion Chronograph Rose Gold and Classic Fusion Aerofusion Chronograph Orlinski are excellent considerations for serious collectors.

So you might be asking, for the price, will you get the full Hublot experience with the Titanium? I would say yes! From the look and feel, the Titanium boasts the pure Hublot DNA.

Should You Get the Hublot Classic Fusion Titanium?

To end this Hublot Classic Fusion review, we ask if this watch is worth the investment.

While it looks like the Classic Fusion is essentially a stripped-down version of the Big Bang, this is not the case at all. Hublot took the core of what makes the Big Bang and condensed it into a softer and more subtle package. It’s elegant and sporty at the same time, and housed in a contemporary slim case.

It has its fair share of drawbacks and it’s mainly with the legibility of the piece. Honestly, for a luxury watch, you’d be hard-pressed to find any serious issue with the watch.

Hopefully, this Hublot Classic Fusion review has helped you decide if the Titanium is a good entry-level option to the Hublot brand.

Alpina Watch Review

Alpina Watch

Alpina has been making watches for over a hundred years. With great style along with quality product, they have a lot going for them. If you are looking for a great luxury sports watch, there’s a good chance you’ll find something you like with Alpina.

Their watches—though not greatly ranged in style design—they are sleek, durable and can double as sports and dress watch. One such watch is Alpiner 4, a sports watch that can blend in with a lot of different settings—making it a favorite of ours. Read more about that watch and a few others to gain a better understanding of Alpina through this Alpina Watch Review.

Alpina Watch Review 2019

King of sports

Alpina is undoubtedly known best for its sports watches. Beginning all the way back in 1938, Alpina started producing its “4” sports watches collection. With leading technology for its time, they’ve only improved, continually bringing sports to the forefront of their luxury watch brand. Their wristwatches have given wearers quality and durable products—not only for men but also for women. For land, air or water, Alpina has shown itself to be versatile and never straying from its classic, sporty roots. The Alpina Alpiner 4 is a perfect example and should be included in any Alpina Watch review.

Alpina Alpiner 4

An Alpina sportswatch, like the Alpiner 4, proves itself by having the “4” sports properties incorporated into it. It must be 1. Antimagnetic, 2. Antishock, 3. Water-resistant, and 4. Stainless. Additionally, a great quality that Alpina sportswatches have is that they are beautiful to look at and many of them can just about pass for a dress watch, like this Alpiner 4.

The blue dial is an attention-getter and is the most eye-catching part of the watch. The markers and hands are all large and easy to read against the blue. The case is 44-mm in diameter and is stainless steel, the dial window material Is antireflective sapphire and the brown band is made of genuine leather. A barely noticeably date window sits by the 3 o’clock marker.

This watch is antimagnetic, antishock, water resistant (up to 330-feet) and it’s stainless—a perfect example of a sports watch. This piece is also extremely attractive, showing how adaptable Alpina’s watches can be. If someone were wanting something showing its sturdiness sporty qualities, there are great options for those styles as which is well.

A good example would be the Alpina Seastrong Diver watch, which shares a lot of features with the Alpiner 4 but is less flashy. It’s darker with a black rubber band and a stainless-steel case that provides a bit of color with its sharp red. The water resistance is much deeper at 984-feet. Overall, Alpina has a lot of great sports watch options that suit many styles.

Smart ‘n stylish

The Alpina brand—known for sports and quality—also provide style and technology. With modern technology improving greatly, it’s not usually desirable to purchase anything expensive that isn’t also innovative. The same goes for watches. Why spend considerable money and not get anything newfangled? That’s the feeling many people have who lean towards the smartwatch options. While some love the classic analog timepieces that provide old fashioned style only, smartwatches are growing in popularity. Alpina has certainly joined the smartwatch party and one such piece is the Alpina Men’s Horological Smartwatch.

Seastrong Horological Smartwatch

The Seastrong Horological Smartwatch looks like the ultimate sports watch but there’s a lot more to it than just being a detailed and accurate timepiece.

The two main colors: orange and black, blend well—looking stylish and vibrant. Additionally, there are slight white and silver accents, making the markers and hands easier to see and read. It is a larger watch with a stainless-steel case that has a diameter of 45mm. It is important to be aware of the size and how it will feel on your wrist before purchasing, to make sure it’ll be comfortable. The watch has quartz movement with a synthetic sapphire dial window to protect it. The black band is made of rubber and has a buckle for a clasp.

While the vibrant colors of the watch are a great draw, the true heart of this watch is the smart technology. This watch can be a great companion to your everyday life. It can keep you up to date with what is happening in the world around you as well as internally with your health. If you download its app—available for Android and iOS, it’ll sync and provide fun functions that include activity and sleep tracking. It also provides notifications for when you receive a text or call. The battery is supposed to last for about four years as well.

Apple and many other smartwatches may have a more “smartphone-like” screen. The horological smartwatches use a secondary dial rather than a screen, to maintain the classic look. That could be less appealing to those wanting a miniature smartphone on their wrist. However, the Seastrong Smartwatch is also a stellar and high-class sports watch—providing an aesthetic and quality an Apple smartwatch simply wouldn’t be able to provide.

Not just an ornament

Since wristwatches grew in popularity through the early 20th century, they’ve been seen on the wrists of women more and more. However, watches are still not as marketed to women as they are to men. Additionally, it is difficult to find high-quality wristwatches that are durable and sporty and…for women. Usually, women’s timepieces are focused on being a prime accessory, to compliment an outfit, or to even blend in as jewelry. But women need high-quality watches to take on adventures just the same as any man.

Alpina watches usually look ready for anything. If you are wanting a luxury watch that doesn’t quite show it’s durability as visibly as Alpina Watches do, you may want to look elsewhere for your new timepiece. Rado could be a better fit. Alpina Watches are incredible and strong and they show it, especially through their women’s watches. An Alpina Watch review must include Alpina’s women’s watches because they ready for adventure—just like the Alpina Women’s Extreme Diver.

Women’s Extreme Diver

Alpina Women’s Extreme Diver watch is a prime example of a sporty watch for women. Known for their sports watches, no Alpina watch review would be complete without referencing how the brand extends its trademark to both men and women. And it extends it well. This watch is strong, durable and perfect for the land and sea. The stainless-steel case is brushed and polished. The movement is Swiss quartz and the black dial is protected by scratch-resistant sapphire crystal. The hands and the hour markers are of a luminescent silver-tone. There is also a date window at the 3 o’clock marker. With a sturdy black rubber strap, this watch looks and feels ready for anything thrown at it.

As promised by the title, this watch is made for diving. It is water resistant up to 984-feet.

This is the watch to beat if you are looking for a beautiful women’s watch that has quality and an ability to handle the water.

History of Alpina

Alpina has a long and rich history as a producer of quality watches. Alpina began with Gottlieb Hauser of Switzerland, who wanted  to make the perfect watches to aid “sportsmen, engineers, technicians, and adventurers.” He began to make his dream work with the concept of the “Alpina 4,” developed in 1938.

A true sports watch must be 1. Antimagnetic, 2. Antishock, 3. Water-resistant, and 4. Stainless steel. With that standard in place, the Alpina sports watches became the brand to beat. Those working on land, at sea, and in the air began choosing Alpina as a result. The company saw success until the Quartz Crisis when quartz became massively popular and Alpina would not stop focusing on its mechanical watches. Alpina suffered greatly during this time.

In 2002, Alpina made its comeback and began to grow. In 2014, Alpina produced the “4” in the Alpiner collection in reference to the four sports properties. They also invented the Horological Smartwatch in 2015. Alpiner seems to continually keep its head above water with new pieces and even inventions focused on their goal of quality sports watches. We’ll see if they continue to grow in the future but as of now, they seem to be producing great things.

Conclusion

Alpina watches are relevant because of their focus on sports. It’s encouraging to see them maintaining standards they’d set for themselves almost a century ago. After reviewing these Alpina watches, it appears they are of a good, luxurious quality that will serve the most active wearer. Additionally, some of the watches are adaptable so that they can be worn on adventures or in the office. Alpina is keeping up technologically while staying true to their aesthetic. Their women’s watches are also perfect for any great adventure, as they should be. Stylistically, these watches may not be everyone’s cup of tea. But, for someone searching for a quality sports watch, Alpina is the place to look.

Best Citizen Eco-Drive Watches

best citizen eco-drive watch

Citizen is one of those brands that have been around for a LOOONG time but does not get that much press. Citizen dates back as far as 1924, when they created a pocket watch. Despite a lack of publicity, Citizen creates some great, affordable watches, that focus on design and technology.

Today, we will be reviewing the Eco-Drive models by Citizen. These watches operate with light; natural or artificial. So the batteries never need to be replaced. The Eco-Drive watches are long-lasting, durable timepieces and are a great buy for any watch lover. The Citizen Eco-Drive Silvertone And Black World Time A-T  is hands down the most appealing, and best-reviewed Eco-drive watch by Citizen. If you are on the market for an interesting watch, look no further than the Eco-Drive models. Another TOP choice, is the Eco-Drive Satellite. This watch has so many special additions that set it apart from every other watch that I will be reviewing today.

Citizen Men’s Eco-Drive Chronograph Watch

The beautiful and well-designed chronograph by Citizen is one of the best reviewed Eco-Drive watches on the market. You are first greeted with a large, stainless steel, 48mm case. I am not a huge fan of large cases on watches, but with all of the complexities inside of the dial on this one, it is a necessity.

I love the light silver dial, it perfectly compliments the dark black, 3 inner calenders, tick marks, and beautifully polished silver bezel and bracelet.

Highlights of this watch are definitely in the design. Of course, like all Eco-drive watches, the movement is controlled by light. Where this watch really shines (no pun intended) is the beautiful dial. The three black subdials feature 24 hour time, 1/10th seconds and even a time zone feature. The power reserve on this bad boy is 270 days and it even has a built-in alarm.

Recommendation

If large faced watches and complex designs are your forte; than this watch is for you! If large cases are not typically your thing, I would still try out this watch. For a large watch, it looks great.

In no way is this normal watch. You can wear it with just about anything and it is sure to stimulate some great conversations! I recommend the Eco-Drive Chronograph to those who want a little more than your “average watch.”

Citizen Eco-Drive Stainless Steel Axiom

Here we have a unique, futuristic looking watch. This timepiece holds the same light-driven quartz movement, but just looks so much cooler!

The Axiom has a 40mm stainless steel case; a perfect size in my opinion.  And a great looking, dark black dial. The black dial has only a chrome, underlined Citizen logo, think silver hands, a single 12 o clock hour marker and a small date window on the right. The simplicity of this watch is what makes it so desirable.

Owners of this stylish timepiece claim that it is durable (up to 99ft water resistance) functional and beautiful. You can be sure to pull this watch out no matter what outfit you plan on wearing.

Recommendation

I recommend this watch to those who have a taste for contemporary design. It is a timepiece that can be worn with just about anything, due to the simple design. Make this your everyday watch and I guarantee you it will garner some awesome compliments.

I can see this watch on the wrist of our futurists, scientists, and people with a love for fashion and innovation.

Citizen Eco-Drive Dress Watch

Simple, durable and extremely affordable are adjectives that describe the Citizen Eco-Drive Dress timepiece.

The case has a diameter of 41mm. I typically love the 40mm cases, but a 1mm larger size does not change much, and actually looks better on those with larger wrists. The textured black dial is protected by an anti-reflective, sapphire crystal. What makes the value of this watch so great, is the high-quality materials used within this timepiece.

Recommendation

This is a watch for those who like classic watches. Nothing about the design is complex, it is simply a nice watch. You can perfectly pair this timepiece with any business or dress attire, but it also makes a great everyday watch due to the durability and clean design.

Citizen Eco-Drive BM6552-52E

The Eco-Drive model BM6552-52E is a great mention due to all of the happy owners. It is hard to find a negative review on this watch, and for a very good reason.

This is YOUR watch if you have a smaller wrist. The case diameter is 32mm. The rectangular design prevents the watch from looking “too small,” and honestly overall it is a great size and weight for any wrist (unless you are a champion arm wrestler that is).

The watch is built with a gold-tone, stainless steel case with a seriously nice black dial.  Your eyes are drawn to the dial with each tick from the gold second hand passing the luxurious gold “diamond” looking hour placeholders.

You get the light powered  Eco-Drive Caliber E111 Japanese-quartz movement, with a power reserve up to 180 days! Once the battery begins to get low, the watch actually warns you that its time to charge. And unless you are a vampire, charging this watch shouldn’t be difficult.

Recommendation

Not everyone is into smaller, square-shaped cases. So this watch is not for everyone. But once you see this watch in person, you can appreciate its beauty. Because this watch has a unique design and great features (like a hardened mineral crystal to prevent scratches) I definitely recommend this watch. This timepiece tends to look great with dress attire, but wear it as you choose! I’m sure you’ll be happy with it though!

Citizen Eco-Drive Promaster Diver Watch

An Eco-Drive dive watch? No way!

You gotta appreciate what Citizen did here. They took a classic dive watch, implemented unique light-power technology and market it at an AMAZINGLY affordable price!

A problem many dive watch enthusiasts have, who do not have the budget to purchase a Rolex or other expensive automatic movements, hate having to change the batteries on their dive watches. The Citizen Promaster dive makes that problem a thing of the past.

Highlights of this watch include, up to 200m of water resistance (an ISO certified dive watch), a durable, 48mm stainless-steel case and a comfortable polyurethane band.

Those who are against the polyurethane, rubbery look, can easily swap out the band for a stainless steel band at any time.

Recommendation

Dive watch lovers, rejoice! The Citizen Promaster is a great choice for an intermediate dive watch. The price point is unbeatable, and the parts used on this watch are top-notch. If you are on the market for a dive watch, you should consider a Citizen Promaster!

Citizen Eco-Drive Satellite

Those who have read my reviews before, know how much I love watches. More specifically how much I love, high-quality, automatic watches. Now the Eco-Drive Satellite may not have an automatic movement, but oh my do I love this watch.

This watch is STUNNING. A 43.5mm stainless steel case fits the complex and beautiful qualities inside of the dial. The dial is a dark black, with large silver hands.

Wait until you hear all of the functionalities of this watch. A bi-directional rotating dial makes it so you can tell the time in ANY time zone. It also has a built-in, RX-GPS function. Some say it takes a minute or two to get started, but once it does it is FULLY FUNCTIONAL and a great addition to this timepiece.

Recommendation

THIS WATCH IS AMAZING. The technologies used in this watch make it worth the slightly higher price point. Not only is the watch beautiful, but it is functional, unique and of course, never needs batteries. A perfect watch for vacations and long road trips. You will definitely be happy with the Satellite!

Citizen Eco-Drive Silvertone And Black World Time A-T

Last, but certaintly not least, we have the Eco-Drive World Time A-T by Citizen.

With so much going on inside of the PERFECTLY sized, 42mm stainless-steel guilloche dial. You are sure to find a feature or two on this watch that you absolutely love. The band is made of strong titanium with a comfortable fold-over clasp. It very well may be the most comfortable Eco-Drive watch by Citizen.

Never be behind on time with this watch. You have the day of the week, radio powered time zone feature, time (with great accuracy), and 12/24 time keeping sub dial all in one watch. What makes things even better is the watch is water resistant up to 200m. It is SO CLOSE to being considered a dive watch.

Recommendation

The watch speaks for itself. At first glance, you are appalled by all of the complexities of the dial. The polished titanium case and bracelet keep the watch looking bold and professional. Expect this to be your EVERYDAY watch. It is so beautiful and durable, you don’t ever have to worry about damaging this amazing and affordable timepiece.

Eco-Drive Watches Final Verdict

You can not get a better bang for your buck than with the Eco-Drive watches. Not many watches implement such innovative technologies, with attractive designs while maintaining an affordable price point. Those who are seeking HIGH-QUALITY watches can obtain just that with the Eco-Drive models.

Owners of these watches RAVE about the accuracy, durability, and quality, making any Eco-Drive watch a great choice. It is not easy to find negative feedback anywhere on the web, people LOVE Eco-Drive timepieces! When deciding which watch to purchase, make sure you choose a trustworthy website like Amazon.
