Tissot Watches Review

Tissot Watches Review

Popularity spanning well over a century and a half, Tissot watches have adorned the wrists of royalty, actors and sports stars. With a rich history and quality watches, Tissot continues to dominate its industry. We’re going to look at a few of Tissot’s greatest qualities through a few of their watches. That way, you can decide if a Tissot watch should find its home on your wrist.

Tissot’s Tech

Tissot has been at the forefront of many great watch revolutions throughout its history. Among the first to follow the path of smartwatches, in 1999 Tissot released its first T-Touch watch. It had a touch screen and a combination of an analog and digital face. Tissot has continued to advance its technology, producing more T-Touches, like this T-Touch Expert Solar—a beautiful example of Tissot’s touch technology.

T-Touch Expert Solar

This Tissot Men’s T-Touch Expert Solar watch has a lot of features in a compact but beautiful package. The case is 45mm in diameter and made with black titanium. The strap is black rubber and movement is Swiss-Quartz. The greatest features, however, revolve around the pioneering aspects of Tissot’s technology.

This watch is not only touch-screen but is also powered through solar energy. The watch has many functions as a chronograph, which include a timer, compass, alarms, and more. It also has a calendar with day, date and month information. The hands and markers are luminescent for easy visibility even in the dark.

Additionally, the watch is durable and will allow the wearer to enjoy it in many conditions. The sapphire crystal window is scratch-resistant and the watch itself is water resistant up to 330-feet, meaning it can be worn while swimming, snorkeling and showering but not while diving.

Users love the durability of this watch, along with the visibility of the dial’s information. One customer also loves that while it may look large, the watch is light and comfortable to wear so that one barely realize its on. Overall, for anyone who likes to have a high-tech watch that will accompany them in many settings, Tissot is a great go-to. Its technology and quality allow for flexibility and reliability. The T-Touch Expert Solar encompasses Tissot’s footprint in watch technology.

Pure Elegance

Along with great technology and quality, Tissot also produces elegant pieces. For both men and women, Tissot’s watch designs can be perfect for everyday tasks, work, and as a luxurious accessory for an elegant night out.

Tissot’s watches allow for luxury in a neat, delicate and stylish way without being overwhelming. One of the best samples of these watches is the Tissot Femini-T Mother of Pearl Dial ladies Cream Leather Watch—a slender, beautiful piece.

Femini-T Mother of Pearl

The Femini-T Mother of Pearl watch is a great example of a dress watch that is adaptable but has many striking features. The dial is mother of pearl and the 22.58mm case is made of PVD stainless steel with a rose gold color. The hands are also of a rose gold-tone. The band is made of white leather. The analog display has quartz movement and the watch is resistant to water up to 30 meters. The watch is protected by a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal window.

The real attraction to this watch is in the priceless detail, which includes diamond hour markers at the 3, 6, 9, and 12 o’clock positions. The rose gold tones, mother of pearl dial and the diamond markers all come together in a watch that, from afar seems simple, but up close is pure elegance.

Classic Tissot Watch

Not everyone wants a watch that overwhelms them with a myriad of information on a small dial. Nor do they always want a watch with glints of diamonds. Sometimes, they want a traditional wristwatch with a style that compliments their own, which they can wear through any major events in their lives—be they promotions at work, a party with friends, their wedding, or a fun hike. A traditional wristwatch is a classic addition to many a wardrobe and Tissot has plenty of great options, including the aptly named:Tissot Men’s Tradition.

Tissot Men’s Tradition

The Men’s Tradition watch has a clean and adaptable style. With a large dial that makes it easy to read the stylish face, this watch wants to make its wearer’s life as easy as possible with its simple style.

The stainless-steel case is large with a diameter of 42mm. The band is of leather calfskin. The display is analog with Swiss quartz movement. The dial itself is a beautiful black guilloché and is protected by a scratch-resistant anti-reflective sapphire crystal window.

The open and simple dial is the best part of the watch with its chic Roman numeral and stick indexes. There is also a barely-there date display window. Users love the easy-to-read and classic style. Overall, this is a great example of Tissot’s more flexible traditional watch options.

Creating unique watches for over a century

Tissot created many watches that were unique in appearance and also very unique in the ways they were made. Tissot created a RockWatch made of granite in the eighties and it was followed by the Pearl Watch and the Wood Watch. Tissot’s creativity wasn’t limited to the second half of the 20th century, though. Contrary to what many would expect a quality watch of the early 1900s to look like, Tissot produced a funky rectangular watch—later called “banana” because of its long design in 1916. The watch features warped-looking numbers. The watch was very popular in Russia during the pre-revolution time. This popular watch is mimicked in the Heritage Banana Centenary, a reminder of Tissot’s creativity and continued popularity through the decades.

Tissot Heritage Banana Centenary

This Heritage Banana Centenary, a fun homage to a Tissot classic, is great for anyone who wants a watch that draws attention. The rectangular gold-tone stainless steel case is 49mm in diameter. The dial is analog with easy-to-see hands. The strap is brown leather with gold-tone touches that match the case and bezel.

The clear stars of the show are the numbers on the champagne-colored dial. The numbers are of all different sizes but are still clear and easy to read. Fashion doesn’t come in the way of this watch’s purpose. There are also minute markers around an inner ring of the dial. They are small and elegant within the shadow of the bigger-than-life hour markers.

This watch is not for the faint of heart. It draws in the eye and provides a fun way to tell time along with paying respects to Tissot’s continual watch creativity and great overall history.

Tissot History

Tissot was founded in Switzerland by Charles-Félicien Tissot and his son Charles-Émile Tissot in 1853. When the younger Tissot went to Russia, he introduced the brand to the entire empire. Tissot even delivered a watch to the last Czar of Russia, Nicholas II in 1904.

Tissot grew in popularity in the world of sports timekeeping for skiing during the mid-20th century. Its presence in the sports world only grew. Throughout its history, up to modern times, Tissot has been prevalent in the world of spots, timing many world championships like those in cycling and ice hockey.

In 1930, Tissot merged with the company Omega in order to form SSIH, which later merged with ASUAG, evolving into the Swatch Group. Post—World War II, Tissot continued to grow and evolve.

Tissot has had many great landmarks throughout its history. A few of the more notable landmarks include releasing the first pocket watch that had two time zones, the first anti-magnetic watch and Tissot’s first T-Touch watch, which really put Tissot on the map in modern times. Tissot has also been worn by many celebrities and can be seen in major movies in the last few years

Tissot began small, like many great watch companies. But it continued to grow throughout the years, making its mark in modern society, major sports, the movies and even in royal Russian history.

Final Thought

Tissot is a quality brand that has only continued to prove itself through the years. With its adaptable style, almost anyone can find a Tissot watch that will work for them. Throughout its history, Tissot has reliably produced elegant watches for men and women. Additionally, most Tissot watches are reasonably priced. With Tissot, you can find quality, a great history, and a good price. What’s not to like?

Best Rolex For Everyday Wear: Top Watch Review

There are so many watches on the market nowadays. Dive watches, sports watches and even watches made for the military. Not all of these are attractive timepieces. My job today is to pick the BEST Rolex watch for everyday wear. As an avid Rolex watch owner and Rolex fanatic, I am more than fit for this review. The basis of a great “everyday” watch accounts for a few key aspects.

For one, a watch must be comfortable. It must also be durable, so it can handle everyday wear and tear. Lastly, if you are buying a Rolex, you want a stylish and reliable watch.

So, rather than keeping you at the edge of your seat throughout this whole review, I am going to outright tell you the best watch. (Sorry for the spoiler).

The ultimate winner for best everyday Rolex watch in 2019 is the Rolex Oyster Perpetual 114300!

Read on to find out why the Oyster Perpetual is the best for everyday wear!

Top Rolex Watches What Makes it Great Rating
Rolex Oyster Perpetual 114300 Comfortable Bracelet, Color-Neutral (can be worn with anything),  Very Reliable ★★★★★

Rolex Air-King 116900 Bold-Black Dial, Exreme Durability, Immense History ★★★★
Rolex Submariner A True Classic, Signature Rolex “Cyclops”, Very Durable, Holds Value ★★★★
Rolex GMT-Master II 24 hour rotable bezel, very precise 3186 mechanical movement, strong build ★★★
Rolex Daytona Very Reliable, Unique/Beautiful Design, Not a Common Watch ★★★

Rolex Oyster Perpetual 114300

The Oyster Perpetual Reference number 114300, is a sleek and simple watch by Rolex.

What makes the Rolex Oyster Perpetual so great, is ironically the simplicity of the timepiece. It is in every way, an everyday watch. It is a good size, very comfortable, durable, reasonably priced and matches with LITERALLY ANYTHING!

The case is a perfect size, 39 mm, to fit a wrist of any size. You also get a fully adjustable, oyster steel bracelet, that is very comfortable to wear and stays snug on the wrist. These oyster bracelets do not loosen up like Jubilee bracelets tend to do.

Certified “Everyday” Watch

You can rest assure that the Oyster Perpetual will look good with ANY outfit you choose; casual or formal. This is because of the beautiful dark rhodium dial paired with the stainless steel, silver case and bracelet. The movement is excellent; a 31 jewel, house-made Swiss automatic movement with a 48-hour power reserve. So not only will your watch have a clean look, but it will be very reliable as well.

Top Features

  • Classic design, dark rhodium dial
  • Great value; low price for a Rolex watch
  • Comfortability

Rolex Air-King 116900

The Air King is a true king in the watch game.  This is a watch for those who like a bit of history, good style, and durability.

Back in 1945, Rolex gifted the world with the fabulous Air series of watches. The Air King quickly became one of the top models and would later become a collector’s item for watch connoisseurs.  While the newer models do not have the same collectors value as the originals; the 116900 is still considered a top-notch watch.

Other than wearing a collectible item on your wrist (which seems to contradict what an “everyday watch” really is) let me give you some reasons why the Air-King is in fact, a great watch for everyday wear.

A 40mm case, 19mm band with and a fold over clasp keep the watch looking good and makes for a great fit for most wrists. The bold black dial features the classic Air-King name (so you can show off)  and is surrounded by a polished stainless steel bezel. Like the Oyster Perpetual, the Air-King features a full stainless steel, Rolex Oyster bracelet.  Why the design does not steer away from the classic look of the 1950’s, a bit of color was added to the crown in the dial and the second hand. Giving the watch a bit of contrast, to really add more to your look.

A Piece Of History On Your Wrist

It is easy to tell why the Air-King is a great everyday watch. The watch can be worn with anything. It has a casual feel but can definitely be worn with a suit as well. The timepiece if comfortable, durable and reliable. Think of the Oyster Perpetual, just add a bit more history and you pretty much have the same watch! Which is why the history factor of this watch makes it a notable mention for today’s review!

Top Features

  • History of the Air-King (A collector’s item)
  • The contrast of colors in the dial
  • Reliability (This watch was and is still used by pilots for long flights)

Rolex Submariner

Would this really be a true Rolex review if the classic Submariner was not included?

When many people think of Rolex. They immediately envision the classic dive watch, the Submariner (No, I’m not a mind reader, but ask anybody, this holds true). And for a very good reason. The Submariner is a beautiful watch by Rolex that is a great functional dive watch that is also worn for everyday wear. The flexibility of this watch is insane! Not many watches do you seen be worn in the ocean, to the mall, or even at an important business meeting.

The Submariner is fit with a 40 mm, stainless steel case. The case looks larger and shiny, because of the black ceramic, bi-directional bezel. You also get the signature Rolex Cyclops to magnify the date. This is one of my personal favorite features on a Rolex because the 2.5 magnification really stands out and exemplifies what it is to be a Rolex.

A Durable Dive Watch

The final say on the Submariner is it is probably the most durable everyday watch that you can buy. Otherwise, you have a dark and bold black dial and shiny polished silver bracelet and case, that can fit any style that you choose. Since the Submariner is larger than some of the other watches today, it stands out and looks GREAT on the wrist of any big executive or businessman waiting to close a deal.

Top Features

  • Signature Rolex Cyclops (2.5 date magnification)
  • Extreme Durability (300m water resistance, shockproof, scratch-resistant sapphire crystal)
  • Beautiful black dial

Rolex GMT-Master II

The GMT-Master II is yet another great watch for everyday wear.

With the Rolex GMT-Master II, you get a combination of great technology, durability, and unique design. This is a GREAT watch; quite frankly one of my favorites. But when accounting for price relative to the other watches being reviewed today, it is a bit higher. Now if you are Elon Musk or Jeff Bezos, I would say this is the everyday watch for you. But not all of us can be as interesting (and rich) as Mr. Musk.

At first glance, the Master II is almost overwhelming. The large 40mm black dial is perfectly fitted with the black and blue ceramic bezel, the anti-reflective sapphire crystal and beautifully polished stainless steel bracelet.

A Watch With Some Special Features

The GMT-Master is not only attractive, it has some great features hidden inside. With the GMT, you can display multiple timezones on your watch while traveling abroad. A 3186 MOVEMENT keeps this watch running strong. This is one of the most robust and reliable mechanical movements that Rolex has created. The Bidirectional rotatable 24-hour graduated bezel is as beautiful as it is important. This is how you will switch between timezones easily and effectively.

Top Features

  • Black and Blue, 24 Hour Uni-directional, ceramic bezel
  • Rolex Calibre 3186 Self-Winding Movement
  • Multiple Timezones for Travel

Rolex Cosmograph Daytona

Definitely a notable mention for our review today. The beautiful, the classy and the high valued Daytona had to have a place in today’s review. Although it is one of the most sought-after Rolex watches, due to price and mere pricelessness, the Daytona comes in LAST place today.

Some Rolex fanatics may call me insane for ranking the Daytona in last place. But please remember, this is an everyday wear review. The Daytona is not only priced on the higher side but also because the value behind the watch, it may be hard to pull it out of the box every single day.

The aesthetics on the Daytona are mind-bogglingly amazing. The shiny stainless steel matches perfectly with the clean, white dial. The three subdials give the watch a complex look and make it the perfect watch for any formal occasion. A wedding may be one of the best times to pull out your Daytona. But because of the Cosmograph functionality and durability of the watch, it also makes a good piece to match with casual outfits (just take care of your watch)!

The “High-Class” Everyday Watch

There is no doubt that the Daytona is a good watch for everyday wear. It is reliable, durable and has unique functions that make the watch one of a kind in the Rolex class. But the price can make some stray away from pulling it out every day. Let me say this now, if the price was not an issue, this watch may be listed as NUMBER ONE! Unfortunately, like many, I have bills to pay, so the Daytona will probably only be worn on special occasions for me. Don’t be surprised if you start to notice this watch, or any variation of the Rolex Daytona Platinum Watch Ice Blue Ceramic 116506 Daytona, being worn by wealthy, top-tier executives.

Top Features

  • 3 subdials with Chronograph features (stopwatch, timer)
  • Beautiful white dial with silver hour markers
  • Bulky Silver Ceramic Bezel

The Final Say

Like I mentioned in the beginning of the article. I am a Rolex FANATIC. I own many variations of Rolex and even have some vintage pieces passed down from my family. So this review was easy, but difficult at the same time. There are so many watches by Rolex that I love and there are plenty that was not mentioned today.

My results for the review today were based on price, comfortability, durability, value and neutral design that can match with any outfit. Because of this, I chose the Rolex Oyster Perpetual as the ultimate winner! It is very comfortable, easy to wear and read and a durable timepiece that can withstand everyday wear.

The Choice is Yours

At the end of the day, the choice is ALL YOURS! Every watch today is an EXCELLENT timepiece. There is no watch that I reviewed that I would not recommend to my best friend. So please, choose to your likeing and I hope I made your watch shopping experience easier. Happy shopping my friends!

Rolex 16700 Vs. 16710 GMT Face-off: Will it be Pepsi or Coke?

rolex 16700 vs 16710

Two Rolex GMT models. One winner. Which watch will defeat all odds and take home the gold.

Now that you got your reality television show introduction, you know it is time for another amazing watch review. Both the Rolex GMT 16700 and the Rolex GMT 16710, are fantastic watches. But sadly I have to make the decision between the two so my greedy  amazing readers can be happy and choose one. With that being said, due to the latest design and updates paired with a handsome, yet classic look, I have to recommend the Rolex GMT 16710 for the win. If you want more details as to why, just read below……..

Rolex GMT 16700

Despite the unavoidable loss, this watch should not be looked down upon. It is an expertly crafted model from Rolex, that offers distinct features and unbelievable reliability. It did in fact, last for over ten years (1988-1999). That tells you something for a watch. I would recommend this piece to those who are wanting a top notch watch at a great price!

Design

Rolex always has great designs with their watches. And the same can be said for the GMT 16700. With a well-sized 40mm case and a multicolored bezel that just screams out buy me! This model features an elegant red color on the bottom half of the bezel and a “Pepsi” blue on the top. The colors fit perfectly and actually match very well with the dark black dial and the red second hand. Due to the color scheme, some people may stray away from wearing this watch with dress clothes. But I say, go AHEAD! In my opinion, the tones from the all of the colors present a very strong, elegant, yet fancy aura. One that will grab the attention of anyone surrounding.

Keep it Classic

Even though the watch has innovative, new features that are not native to the original GMT. The timepiece still has an overall classic design.  For one, if the blue and red bezel throw you off, the watch still features a 2.5 magnifying cyclops, sitting atop the domed sapphire crystal and a bi-directional bezel. Familiar, yet different at the same time. A well-deserved rating of 4.5/5 stars goes to the design of this watch.

Movement

We all know by now (I hope) that Rolex always uses top-notch movements inside of their watches. But as time passes, some become more innovative and reliable than others.

The GMT 16700 uses a caliber 3175 automatic movement. It has a hacking and quickset function to set the time. Hacking just means that when the twistable crown is pulled out, the second hand HALTS, to ensure more accurate timekeeping. Quickset, just means that the date can be changed quickly, without the hour hand having to pass 12 am. As for reliability, this watch does not disappoint.

The 31 jewel, 28,000 vibrations per hour, make it so the watch runs smooth and accurate. A slight downfall to the ref. 16700, is the one hour hand, that is independent. Newer models feature an independent hour hand, so three time zones can be accounted for. Important if you are a pilot, not so much if you are anything else. With all of that accounted for, a solid 4/5 rating is given to the movement.

Value

Despite the long run of the GMT 16700, not many models were actually produced. That being said, this is actually a rarer watch, that is harder to find than similarly styled Rolex watches. You can still find these models at cheaper prices than newer models from trustworthy websites, but expect that to change in the future, not that I am a fortune teller or anything. Just due to the rarity of the piece, I can assume that prices will, in fact, raise as the watch becomes more vintage. Vintage + rare = money money money!

Can you find better GMT models around the same price. Certainly. But newer mass produced models do not have as much history as the 16700.  You get a luxurious watch, with precision craftsmanship and features that set it apart from other models. So I give the value rating, a humble 4.5/5. This is definitely on my purchase list in the near future.

Durability

A feature that should be one of the most important when deciding on a watch. You do not want a flimsy watch that will damage very easily. Not that ANY Rolex watches are not durable. This is something Rolex takes seriously. The GMT 16700 is no exception.

Solid, strong stainless steel case, a sapphire, scratch resistant crystal and a water resistance up to 100m (this is great for a non- dive watch). So if you treat the watch well, and don’t drop it from a plane, normal wear and tear should not affect the watch. It should hold its own.

Rolex GMT 16710

What do you know? A bright red and Pepsi blue again!

Now don’t let the same color fool you. There is ALOT of upgrades on this watch as compared to the older 16700. This was one of the FIRST watches by Rolex that was able to account for up to three time zones. As insane as it sounds, it was a very important factor for pilots years ago, who relied solely on watches to tell time.

Design

Are you going with Pepsi, Coke or all black?

If you live in Atlanta like me, you must go COKE….

The design is basically identical to the 16700, with some minor changes. You still have the choice between Pepsi and all black, but the addition of the Coke color scheme, you get another choice (or you can buy them all). Besides the Coke coloring, the watch also features a matte bracelet that really shines and gives the watch a strong, luxurious and wealthy look. Everything else is just about the same when it comes to design, a cyclops, black dial , 40 mm steel case, and oyster bracelet all match the 16700 model. But due to the few upgrades, the GMT 16710 pulls a victory with a 4.7/5.

Are you in love with all the color schemes, and can’t decide on just one? An interesting fact is that you can buy separate bezels, so you can have more than one watch display! This goes for both the 16700 and 16710.

Movement

If you thought the caliber 3175 was good enough, be prepared to be amazed with the caliber 3185! Not many Rolex models use this movement. So it is an unwanted movement that is crafted to perfection, hence why it is not used in every watch.

The caliber 3185 is fitted with a 31 jewel 28,800 vibrations per hour, automatic movement. The addition of the independent hour hand and the 50 power reserve, make it even more unique. Reliability is an understatement when describing this watch.  Who else can tell a friend what time it is in three different time zones on their watch (Smartphones don’t count)!

A 4.8/5 is the rating I give to the movement on this piece. What is even more amazing? Models made after 2005 use a 5186 MOVEMENT! So even more of an upgrade!

Value

Although it may have been produced more than the 16700, the GMT 16710 is a watch that I expect to grow in value as well. A main factor in the battle is all of the upgrades this watch has. So despite the fact that there may be fewer of the 16700’s out there, they are not as advanced as the 16710’s. And you have more colors you can choose from.

This model was discontinued as well. So it will soon be known as a vintage as well. Like all watches, if you have this model, keep it in good condition and you won’t be disappointed with the value. 4.6/5 rating on value.

Durability

The 16710 is just as durable as the previous model. Not really any differences here. Everything pretty much mirrors the 16700. Take care of the piece and it should be looking as good as new for a very long time!

A Win Due to Advancements

As I mentioned throughout the article, there is not a lot of difference between these two models. What you do get is a more advanced piece with the 16710, which may be a selling point for many watch enthusiasts. I tend to live by the motto, if you are purchasing a luxury, high-grade watch, buy the best one. Since these two are so similar, why not go with the upgraded model? Now, if mechanical advancements are not a big deal to you, either watch is a great choice.

Can you even see the difference?

If not, don’t feel bad. The differences are minor. The best advice I can give to anyone purchasing either one of these watches is to buy from a reliable source like Amazon. Too many counterfeits are in circulation, make sure you are purchasing the real thing!

Compare and Contrast

Here is a closer look at what makes the watches different (not much).  Very subtle differences separate the two. The main factor is the movement.

Vintage Rolex Review: Air King 5500 Vs. Explorer 1016

Rolex Vintage: Air King 5500 Vs. Explorer 1016

Calling all watch lovers and collectors of all things antique! We have a review today that dates back to the 1970s. A review of the Rolex Air-King 5500 and the Rolex Explorer 1016. Just to get this out of the way upfront, both of these watches are vintage masterpieces. I adore the quality and history of these watches, so it is going to be a challenge to recommend which one is better. At the end of the day, no matter what watch you purchase, you are buying a piece of history.

When reviewing vintage watches, it is important to note a few main points that I will cover in this article. History of the watch, value, product design, and style. Without further delay, it is time to jump into an overview of each watch, to go in depth about the features that make them unique.

Vintage Rolex Air King

History

To begin, it is important to know that the Air King model of Rolex watches is one of the oldest models to release.  The Air King dates back to as far as World War II! In my opinion, simply knowing you are wearing a watch (or storing for collecting), that has such a long history is insane! These watches were curated for pilots who started to purchase Oyster Perpetual watches after the war, hence the name “Air King.”  With a sleek, classic design, Rolex released a model that features a time-only display to keep the watch simple yet handsomely appealing.

The Air-King reference 5500 was released in 1957. Paying homage to the brave soldiers of war, this aviation-themed watch was initially released with the war pilots as their market. The model stayed around a good thirty-seven years, which highlights that the watches were appealing to much more than just war heroes.

Product design

Now some features vary, because the reference 5500 has many variations. So to keep it simple I will focus on one particular model

I chose this model because the overall design is wonderful. You get everything that makes a Rolex with this watch, (besides the cyclops). A crisp and clean stainless 34mm case with an alluring silver dial perfectly complements the durable stainless steel band. The all silver look stands out on the wrist. You maintain a clean look that will go with any outfit you pull out of the closet. It is not a watch for those seeking a flashy and highly complex looking watch. The look is respectfully simple and genuine.

Durability

The stainless steel keeps this watch looking pristine with every wear. The watch was made to withstand everyday wear. An acrylic protective crystal and a waterproof, Rolex original, screw down crown keep the watch safe from any water damage. There is no doubt this is one of the most durable watches on the market for its age. Many you find for sale are in almost pristine condition. I own a vintage Datejust oyster perpetual and although I love it, the durability is nowhere near the caliber of the Air King.

Movement

The watch does not state “precision” on the dial for no reason. The movement on this watch is advanced for its time. With in-house made 1520 movement, you are sure to have an accurate reading timepiece despite the age of the watch. A unique fact is this type of movement was the first to be made 100% at Rolex factories.

To be critical, it is a downgrade from the 1530 movement, lacking a Breguet over-coil and only 17 jewel movement compared to 25 jewel movement of the latter. Do not let this discourage you. The watch is still an expert timekeeper. I just wanted to inform readers of the slight downgrades from other Rolex’s manufactured during this time period.

The Value

Value is extremely important when deciding to purchase a vintage watch. To get straight to the point, due to the immense history and durability of this watch, the value is great. What is even better is the particular model I featured on here is one of the most affordable vintage pieces by Rolex. So in short, yes this watch is valuable. Keep it in great condition and hold on to it for many years! It is a reserved classic that is sure to always be relevant to watch connoisseurs all over!

Vintage Rolex Explorer

History

What a trek we have with this piece. The Explorer ref. 1016 dates back to 1969 and the Explorer original model goes as far back as 1953. The Explorer brand of Rolex was created to congratulate the completed mission to the peak of Mt. Everest. British expeditioner, Sherpa Norgay, was wearing an early prototype that would eventually become the Explorer during his intense journey up Mt. Everest.

Now, if you have the chance to find a Rolex Explorer, you too can face Mt Everest (DISCLAIMER: You are not guaranteed to make it through the mission, but at least you have a beautiful reliable watch)! The Explorer quickly became a popular model and gave every hiker a bit of spirit!

Rolex began the production of the Explorer 1016 in 1969 and the watch lasted for over 25 years! Why it may seem odd, the older models are actually easier to find than the later produced 1016’s.

Product design

I would be lying if I told you this was one of the best looking Rolex watches.  It is rather a plain model. The dark, tropical dial does not stand out as profoundly as the Air King dials, that match great with the band.  A plus is a 36mm case, which is a great size on just about any wrist. It fits comfortably with an oyster bracelet with 280 end links.

The dial consists of three large numbers for the time, those numbers being 3,6 and 9. The font is not the most appealing and I feel as though the large numbers were unnecessary. Other than that, everything about the watch is pretty classic to Rolex.

You can never go wrong with the stainless steel bold and beautiful oyster bracelet. Rolex watches of every model are all made perfectly with no imperfections So when reviewing a watch by Rolex, I want to see uniqueness and innovative design. Frankly, I do not see any of that with the Explorer 1016 watch. There is no doubt a great history behind the Explorer, however, nothing stands out when looking at the watches features.

Durability

Like the Air King, the Explorer is also a durable watch. It offers the same protection with a strong stainless steel bracelet, that is held tight with 280 end links that keep it in place on the wrist. A pro is the water resistance of 100 meters. At the time of production, this is about double the resistance of other Rolex sports watches. The Air King can withstand 100 meters of water resistance as well, but it was produced later than the Explorer 1016, so it is innovative for the time.

Since the Explorer was made with extreme hiking in mind. Rolex added a low viscosity movement, so the watch is able to operate at extremely low temperatures. So your next trip to Alaska or the South Pole will not interrupt your watches functionality.

Overall, like many Rolex watches, the Explorer 1016 is a very durable watch that can withstand frigid cold temperatures and intense environments all over the world.

Movement

In order to survive a dangerous hike, you need a watch equipped with accurate time-keeping, VERY ACCURATE time-keeping. The Explorer does feature a 1570 caliber movement, which is an amazing movement for the time f production. Expect this watch to work today as it did 40 years ago! It is definitely a reliable time-keeper and it blows away the Air King on this one!

Value

This is a tricky one. The vintage Explorer 1016 is a very expensive model that has a wide range of prices. The high price is fair in some cases because it is indeed a rare model. But make sure to look at the year of production. Many of the older models are priced extremely high and have replaced parts; so it is no longer original. For some reason, it is more difficult to find later models, produced in the early eighties. So account for that if purchasing an Explorer 1016.

If the watch is kept in great condition, you are in for a good investment! Just always be cautious and safe when buying a vintage Rolex. If you want the best value make sure it is a 100% original piece, in great condition, produced in the late seventies or early eighties.

To Fly Or to Hike: Which watch is best?

With everything we covered accounted for, which watch is best? I have to go with the Rolex Air-King 5500. Despite a lower grade movement and history that does not involve Mt. Everest, the watch is much cleaner and better looking. The beauty of the Air-King makes up for the lack of a newer movement caliber.

Both watches are a piece of history. No matter which one you decide to purchase, keep in mind the age of the watch and all it has been through. These are old watches that are still working to this day! Appreciate your vintage Rolex, whether you decide to purchase the charming Air-King or the historic Explorer.

Due to the rarity of the Explorer 1016, it is not found on Amazon. You can purchase it from other trusted sources but stick to only websites that have great reviews and certifies the watch you are buying is authentic.

Burberry Watches Review: The Designer Watch That’s Worth it!

Review of Burberry Watches

Oh, Burberry! Watches may not be the first thing that comes to mind when speaking of the brand, I tend to imagine fancy trench coats and great smelling cologne. But, like every other designer company, Burberry decided to make watches. Unlike many watches on the market today from big-name companies, Burberry watches are actually worth the price tag!

Brief history of Burberry Watches

Burberry began their journey of watch-making in the mid 90’s by designing and manufacturing their watches in-house. This continued until 2000. In 2001, Burberry signed a deal with Fossil, to take over the manufacturing side of the process. Think of it like Lebron James signing with Miami. Lebron is Fossil, in this example, bringing expertise and wisdom to Burberry. Ok, it may not be the best example, but you get the point (I hope)!

Fossil is the mastermind behind many watch brands that you see today, many of these watches you probably never would have imagined were made by Fossil! Michael Kors, Armani Exchange, Kate and Spade are all made by Fossil. Anyway, Fossils brand of watches in itself is not anything spectacular. But not all Fossil watches are made equal. So what makes Burberry different?

The difference is not on the inside of the watch. The mechanics work the same as almost every affordable watch on the market; with a battery-powered quartz. Not that there is anything wrong with battery operated timepieces, it is just not as intricate as automatic movement watches. But if you are in the market for an automatic piece, keep in mind that you will be paying top dollar. Quartz watches are cheaper to maintain and in the case of the Burberry models; they are very attractive.

What sets Burberry apart from the rest is the build, look and sleekness of every watch that they create. Besides simply having the name Burberry on your wrist, which may, in fact, attract women of all ages your way, there is more to it than just the name.

 Top Quality, Long lasting Watches

Burberry uses a high-grade stainless steel for their watches that is extremely durable, rust proof and even corrosion resistant! Which means it is a great watch to wear daily. No need for that wd40, or baking soda treatment to prevent rust. In all seriousness though, they are great watches to wear with any outfit and on a daily basis. The style and complexity of design are nicer than many watches that I see today, so you are sure to receive many compliments every time you wear it. Enough about the brand at large. It is time to dive into some of the most appealing models of Burberry watches.

Top Burberry Watches

Let’s begin with quite possibly my favorite watch by Burberry. Now listen here, I am a watch connoisseur, I have watches dating back to the eighties by Rolex and Tag Heuer. These are watches that you may pull out once in a while, or just stare at in the watch case, avoiding any contact with the real world. In contrast, the Burberry Two-tone “The City” Chronograph watch is a perfect choice to wear for any special occasion or even for a great casual look. At first glance, you will think you are looking at a very expensive watch. The price is actually very affordable and surprising when comparing it to similar looking models. The bright white face with sturdy, gold hands inside really invent a high-class look.

The watch truly stands out on the wrist, with an anti-reflective face, so the name of your watch grabs the attention of everyone around. A true go to watch for the best of occasions.

A Watch to Wear Every day

Next, on the list, we have another favorite of mine. The Burberry BU9000 and Burberry Bu9001. They are close enough in comparison to group into one genre.

Burberry BU9000

The Burberry BU9000 is a beautiful watch. So much so that I used this watch as the featured image on the post. An easy attention grabber. The classic designs merge with a futuristic look and a solid, stainless steel band.  What stands out to me the most with this watch, is definitely the unique designs on the face. The deep cut lines create a maze type effect that is as mesmerizing as it is professional. Look at this watch to be your GO TO.

This is a watch to wear every single day, granted, you can wear your Two-tone Chronograph, but If you are in the market for more than one watch, set that one aside for the special nights. I’m lost for words seeing this watch on the wrist, a very classic and stylish watch that should definitely be showcased. No need to flaunt your wrist around with noticeably movements, the watch is a neck turner by itself. Nothing about this piece goes too far. It is simply a great looking watch.

Burberry BU9001

The newer model, BU9001, is just as nice as its older counterpart but features a black face. Personally, I am not usually a fan of blackface watches, but this is an exception. Consider the blackface if you are into basic colors for outfits. The Bu9001 goes perfectly with a white button-down shirt, some black slacks, and shiny black loafers. Your wrist becomes one with the outfit, exponentially changing your whole look. You will start to feel naked without this watch on with neutral colors! Words that I would use to describe these models are stunning, creative durable, yet somehow a  noticeable classic.

The Leather Strap

Ready for a curveball. All of the previous watches mentioned have stainless steel straps, my favorite kind of band for a watch. But you do not have a TRUE watch collection until you have a leather strapped watch. So introducing the Burberry Bu9013! When I decide to pull out the mighty leather strap (no kinkiness intended), I tend to wear it with brown shoes. Why brown? Honestly, I really don’t know, I just think the brown strap is the perfect piece to go with the shoes.

You get the same unique look on the face as my previous favorites, and nonetheless, still a great look. But something about the leather band changes the whole game. This piece is here to enlighten your wardrobe. The calfskin band keeps the weight nice and comfortable, with a great feel on the wrist. Like I said, wear this with your favorite brown shoes and I guarantee you will feel ten times smoother.

Sapphire

Time for the last, but definitely not least, watch by Burberry. What we have here is a watch sent down from the heavens. A watch made for lovers of all things sapphire. Here we have the Burberry Bu9900.

What a beauty we have here. Notice how the colors just go together so well. A light and clean looking watch, with a complex chronograph system inside. The dials go so well with the hand that enchants with every tick. Maybe this is the watch used for trances? This will not disappoint the most materialistic of people.

When holding this beauty, you feel as though you are grasping a diamond, that has just been salvaged from the mine. Expect to stand out as well because this is not a watch you will see often. Not that it is rare, but it is just not a common watch to see. You will notice more Bu9000 and 9001’s in public. You can now be the one to change the game. The crystal look will surely win you over when you see it in person. I may have found your new daily watch

The rundown: Why are Burberry Watches Worth it?

Many people are beginning to become watch “know it alls” and downplay quartz watches. This is disappointing and quite aggravating to a person who has owned watches of all qualities. Yeah, a mechanic watch is great if you need to know the exact time at all times. It is really a reliable timekeeper.

Buuuuut, let’s be honest. Very honest. Are you wearing that watch to say, oh hey everyone, its lunchtime? Or to let Jim know the time has come to leave the office? Or are you wearing the watch for the style? For an experiment, try shading out the names of watches, and go strictly off looks. Some of the top mechanic brands become over-complex, which in my opinion makes them ugly at times. If you view Burberry watches you are starstruck by the beautiful designs. That is what TRULY makes sets this watch apart from every other watch on the market. And like I mentioned at the beginning of the article, you are wearing a Burberry piece.

The luxurious coat making company, that you can only find in the highest class areas in town, is on your wrist. Feel good about it. Share its beauty. And lastly, enjoy whatever Burberry watch you decide to purchase! Overall, if you are in the market for a designer watch. Go with one from Burberry. You can not find this kind of style and detail in any other designer brand watch on the market. I wish the Burberry Watches review may help you in your search for the right luxury brand watch.
