Best Cartier Watch

1. Ballon Bleu de Cartier

best cartier watch

I don’t know about you but when I think about Cartier, the Ballon Bleu de Cartier watch comes to mind. The Ballon Bleu is such a distinctive watch in terms of design that it has managed to elevate itself into iconic status. If you’re planning to get a single Cartier watch, make it the Ballon Bleu.

Highly Distinguished Timepiece

Many luxury watch companies pride themselves on tradition. This is why brands such as Rolex and Patek Philippe are still as popular even after a century. They have watch collections that have existed for decades. Customers have high expectations when it comes to these watchmakers.

As a result, many classic designs have remained unchanged over the years.

What I’m saying is that it’s difficult to create a stunning and unique watch design but still adheres to the essence of the brand. However, Cartier has successfully done it with the Ballon Bleu de Cartier Watch.

The Ballon Bleu’s crown is possibly its most recognizable feature. The fluted crown looks as if it’s floating due to the recessed large blue cabochon. The arch that extends at the 3-o’clock position demonstrates a serious fluidity in design.

The guilloche dial forms this unique C-shape that creates a truly original aesthetic. Cartier really did a tremendous job of making the Ballon Bleu a modern unisex watch.

The Ballon Bleu is a truly unique timepiece yet it’s also strangely familiar.

2. Santos de Cartier

best cartier watch

I know I might be sounding repetitive but the Santos de Cartier Watch is yet another timepiece that deserves its iconic status – legendary even.

In case you don’t know, the Santos de Cartier Watch is generally accepted as the very first watch that’s designed to be worn on the wrist. This was when people were still carrying pocket watches.

Effervescent Icon of Watchmaking

Cartier has made over a hundred variations of the classic Santos de Cartier. In 2018, Cartier launched a new line of Cartier Santos watches. There are actually two size versions of the 2018 release: medium and large. Both versions are fitted with the in-house Cartier caliber 1847 MC movement which has a power reserve of 42 hours.

Now, it’s available for a decent men’s size.

Once you have the Santos on your wrist, you’ll be likely smitten by it. The 2018 version combines hallmark features with new ones. The iconic squared case with round edges are still present and looks great with the polished bezel that’s littered with 8 screws.

Whether it’s for casual or dressier events, the Santos will look amazing.

Overall, the new Santos looks great on the wrist with a thinner profile when compared to previous versions. The case is fairly large but it’s offset by shorter and curved lugs. Comfort is never an issue here.

The Santos looks and feels good, and comes with new ideas.

3. Drive de Cartier

best cartier watch

Unlike many of the timepieces in this list of the best Cartier watch, the Drive de Cartier is a fairly new release. While the watch doesn’t have any heritage or tradition behind it, the Drive hits a home run from a design standpoint.

For the Most Driven Men

The Drive is most notable because the shape is actually a new design for Cartier. It looks like a cushion shape watch with a rather defined dial. The soft corners almost make the dial look circular. While this may seem like out of the norm for Cartier, I must say that it works wonderfully.

The design elements of the dial provide a much-needed depth to the watch. The overall look of the watch looks for be vintage-inspired. However, the watch gives a timeless look similar to an elegant men’s sports watch.

While most luxury watches only see ample wrist time during important events, the Drive is reliable enough to be used as a daily timekeeping tool. The design does a great job of standing up to daily use. However, that’s not saying that the Drive is a slouch as a dressier watch.

Fortunately, Cartier has put enough attention to detail to the Drive that it more than qualifies to be a dress watch. From the guilloché pattern on the dial to the arrangement of dial elements, the Drive is simply a design harmony in a case. The brushed and polished surfaces give the watch an unusual geometry which adds more points to its uniqueness.

The Drive is a fun watch that really embodies the pleasure of wearing a Cartier.

4. Cartier Tank Solo

best cartier watch

The Cartier Tank Solo has been called the most iconic timepiece on the planet. The Tank Solo is a sleek, pristine piece of machinery that has just recently celebrated its 100th anniversary. With that said, you can’t really make a list of the best Cartier watch without listing the Tank Solo in it.

Ultimate in Classic Watches

The Tank Solo is a modern redesign of Cartier’s iconic Tank model. With the 100th anniversary, the design of the Tank Solo is actually the nearest to the original iteration released more than a century ago. The message is clear, the Tank Solo is all about streamlined and clean elegance.

The Tank Solo comes with an in-house movement which adds more value in terms of collectability. The watch features the standard antireflective sapphire crystal which protects the dial. There’s also the synthetic spinel cabochon which is basically identical to the one found from the earliest versions of Tank.

The silvered opaline dial creates a satiny backdrop for the black Roman numerals which is excellent for legibility. However, it’s not exactly the most durable model despite its namesake. Plus, it’s only water-resistant to 30 meters.

If you are looking to get into Cartier but don’t have a sky-is-the-limit budget, the Cartier Tank Solo is an excellent watch for its affordable price.

5. Ronde Louis Cartier

best cartier watch

The best Cartier watch is all about the perfect amalgamation of both form and function. The Ronde Louis Cartier demonstrates the brand’s expertise in manufacturing elegant watches with innovative features.

Luxurious Elegance and Sophistication

The Ronde Louis Cartier was introduced back in 1937 and is created by the maestro himself. In a sea of square and rectangle Cartier watches, the Ronde Louis Cartier stands out as a round men’s dress watch.

Not to be confused with the ‘Rotonde de Cartier’ which was released in 2006, the Ronde Louis is undoubtedly the better watch when it comes to style, elegance, and sophistication. The watch features a very discrete look that oozes a lot of charm.

The Ronde Louis Cartier, when worn with a pair of cufflinks, will allow you to go anywhere you want. Although the watch certainly leans more on the dressier side, it’s versatile enough to be a reliable daily companion.

The Ronde Louis Cartier is a classic winner and presents a great luxurious option if budget is not an issue.

6. Clé de Cartier

best cartier watch

For a company like Cartier who prides itself for its heritage and an eye for innovation, it can be difficult to put out a new line of watch. The release of Clé de Cartier removes any doubt that the company is deadset on moving forward.

Evolution in Concept and Functional Design

At first glance, the Clé de Cartier is far from a unique timepiece. In fact, it looks like a watch straight from the 60s and 70s. However, a quick glance is certainly doing the watch a massive disservice.

One of the details that I really love about the Clé de Cartier is the elegant and fluid contours along the lugs and case back. The ovoid shape of the case allows the watch to sit comfortably against the wrist.

The dial itself features the familiar Cartier design with its guilloché center section with bold Roman numerals in blue. The dial’s design does a good job of taking the center stage with its perfect circle shape and rounded bezel.

Like most of Cartier’s best watches, the Clé de Cartier is an excellent unisex watch.

Cartier Vs Rolex Watch Reviews

cartier men's w710056 dive watch

Ah, what a review we have today! Two brands that are highly regarded, and are some of the most well known in the watch and jewelry industry today. I am talking about the powerhouse watch brand Rolex and the jewelry turned to watch company, Cartier. This is Cartier vs Rolex. Although Cartier is becoming more and more known for its high-priced, luxury quartz watches; they still do not compare to Rolex.

The Rolex brand is one that will always be one of the tops in the watch community. Due to all of the history and great pride that Rolex puts into their watchmaking, it is the ultimate winner for today’s review.

Rolex is not the most expensive watchmaker to exist, and it is not the best. But the name in itself is popular amongst watch fanatics, rappers, and really, anybody. The same can not be said for Cartier. Besides just popularity-wise, Rolex is also A LOT more complex than Cartier. Rolex watchmakers produce masterpieces that are extremely accurate and beautiful. Cartier focuses on the luxury side of watchmaking and pretty much stops there…

Today, I will review the top watches by each brand, highlighting the best features and aesthetics of the particular watches. From there, I will show why Rolex is a better choice for ANY type of watch! (P.S: I am an extreme Rolex fan, not being biased or anything ?) . So instead of saving the best for last, let’s dive right into why Rolex is your golden ticket to watch paradise!

Rolex Submariner

Easily one of the most classic watches by Rolex. The beautiful, durable, and simply designed Rolex Submariner.

cartier vs rolex

The Rolex Submariner was one of the first dive watches to ever hit the market. Whether you decide to purchase a vintage or a newer model (pictured above), you are sure to be happy with your timepiece.

The Submariner features a beautiful black dial with a perfect sized 40 mm case diameter. A ceramic, uni-directional bezel insert gives a great touch to match the black dial and compliment the polished stainless steel Oyster bracelet. To ensure you are never missing out on time, Rolex created a reliable 3135 caliber self-winding movement for the Submariner. If you do opt for the Submariner, remember, there is no classic Rolex cyclops to display the date. And if you go for the model 114060, there is no date on the dial.

Features that make this watch so durable include water resistance up to 300 Meters, a strong screw-down crown to prevent water from entering the watch, and a deployment buckle clasp on the bracelet, which keeps the watch secure on the wrist.

A Classic Dive Watch

If simply designed, but somehow very handsome dive watches are your thing. Then I can not recommend a better watch for you. The Submariner is reliable, VERY durable and goes well with any attire that you decide to wear (casual or fancy). If there was any other dive watch that I would recommend, it would be the Rolex Sea Dweller!  But for sake of my review, go with the Submariner! ?

Rolex Milgauss

The Milgauss is a favorite amongst Rolex fans. Most of the design is classic and similar to a Rolex Datejust, with an exception within the dial…

cartier vs rolex

The Milgauss looks like your average Datejust at first glance. Even the specs are pretty similar; the Scratch resistant sapphire crystal, handcrafted screw-down crown, 40 mm stainless steel case and a black dial.

Two features that differentiate the Milgauss from other Rolex watches. The second hand is a bright orange lightning bolt. The watch was originally made for scientists in mind. So a signature lightning bolt was a must-have addition to this timepiece! Another innovative addition to the Milgauss is the anti-magnetic abilities within. The movement is not affected by magnetic pull due to advanced roadblocks put in to keep this from happening. The reason for this is because many scientists work around magnetic fields. So keeping accurate time while creating new inventions was something that was very important!

Innovation

The technology that is used on the Milgauss is not a common piece of watches. This is a factor that makes it so unique and so it holds its value over time. So even if you are not an awesome scientist, this watch is definitely a conversation starter. (“Hey is your watch protected against magnetic fields? No, well mine is)!

Rolex Cosmograph Daytona

The Daytona is the highest priced out of the Rolex watches that I have reviewed today. But for a very good reason, and it is ABSOLUTELY worth the price. (I wish I had one).

cartier vs rolex

Within this masterpiece is an amazing 4130 Rolex caliber automatic movement. It is run with 44 Jewel movement and a VPH (vibrations per hour) of 28,800. A 72-hour power reserve that keeps the watch running longer. Other physical specs include a 40 mm stainless steel case, stainless steel adjustable bracelet, a beautiful black, ceramic dial, and luminescent hands & hour markers.

Incredible Accuracy

The polishing of the DAYTONA is literally out of this world. But what truly makes it amazing is the precise accuracy of the movement that runs the Daytona. The Parachrom hairspring has exceptional qualities that make the watch extremely accurate. It is said to be ten times more accurate than a traditional hairspring.

Cartier Ballon Bleu Stainless Steel Watch

Now it’s time to go over top watches by Cartier. The Ballon Bleu is a great watch to start with; due to the classic design and perfectly polished look.

The stainless steel case measures 41.5 mm, so a great size for any wrist. It is slightly larger than most Rolex classic pieces, (40mm), but it’s still a great look. Inside the white dial holds the Roman Numerals that give the timepiece a vintage look. A nice automatic piece keeps this watch ticking strong. Long time owners are content with the movement on the Cartier Ballon Bleu. The movement is not as regarded as any Rolex movement, but it definitely gets the job done.

A Classic Look

If you are into watches that are nice and simple, this may be a great fit. The stainless steel and white dial go great with the large, bold Roman Numerals. This is a watch that can go with any outfit from casual to the most formal business attire.

Cartier Men’s W7100056 Dive Watch

Now for a dive watch by Cartier.

cartier vs rolex

42mm large case, up to 998 feet of water resistance, and a clean, dark black dial are some differentiating features on the Cartier Dive Watch. The watch also comes stock with a black rubber band. That being said, this is one of the more durable watches by Cartier and is a great choice if durability is important to you.

Many other features resemble the Ballon Bleu. This is why this watch is known and regarded for its diving abilities.

A Durable Dive Watch

Although I would personally refer any Rolex Dive Watch over the Cartier Dive, this is still a good watch (Rolex is just amazing).  But there is no doubt that this watch is strong. You can be sure that it will last through any wear and tear, heck even a few drops in the toilet will be fine.

Cartier Tank Solo “Quartz”

The Tank Solo by Cartier is probably one of the most popular watches by the brand.

Cartier is known for its square-shaped timepieces. I personally am not a huge fan of how the squared watches look on wrists, but everyone is entitled to their opinion. Many people DO LOVE these styles of watches (hence why they are one of the most popular watches by Cartier). The stainless steel case is 27.4 mm with a synthetic sapphire crystal. The Tank Solo is run on a quartz movement but is known to be pretty accurate. For the most part, the watch is a simple look. A white dial with large, black Roman numerals and a stainless steel case and band.

For Those Who Like Things Different

Most men’s watches come in the generic round case shape. So having the squared design is a unique touch to stand out from other watches. This is a great dress watch that can be worn with business casual or very formal attire. It is sure to get people talking and asking you about where you got your watch. Remember, people are drawn to things that stand out. And the Tank Solo by Cartier does just that.

Final Verdict

Hopefully, I made it clear today that both watchmakers are great brands that create reliable, and luxurious timepieces. When it comes down to what brand is MORE reliable, MORE durable, and MORE luxurious; the ultimate winner is Rolex. Rolex is one of those household names that will always be known and regarded as one of the BEST watchmakers in the world! Cartier is more known for its fine jewelry rather than their timepieces.

If you opt for a Rolex, know that your watch will hold its value (if kept in good condition) and maintain its reliability throughout the duration of its watch life. The same can’t be said for Cartier. Why it may run for a long time, they are not built to last as long as a Rolex, and will not hold value like a Rolex. So if you need any more clarification than what I have said throughout this review, here you go for the last time. Rolex watches are a BETTER choice for prospective watch owners. They are around the same price and built with better materials.

At the end of the day, the choice is up to you. If you are truly in LOVE with the Tank Solo, go ahead and purchase it! Just make sure when you purchase a you buy it from a reliable source, like Amazon!

Happy shopping my watch friends!
