Best Microbrand Watches

1. Halios Seaforth

Best Microbrand Watches
Best Microbrand Watches

Halios is a brand that I have recently discovered and I must say that I am very impressed. This microbrand is known for its dive watches and its most famous offering is the Halios Seaforth.

Big Value Dive Watch

Halios and its flagship Seaforth diver watch have risen to fame on the internet. The brand is basically a one-man operation of Jason Lim out of Vancouver, Canada. It’s a passion project that attracted a lot of attention from the watch community.

It’s a good thing that Lim had an impeccable taste.

The Seaforth is a 41mm steel-cased watch that offers 200m of water resistance and protected with a domed sapphire crystal. If you are a fan of svelte minimal aesthetic, the Halios Seaforth warrants a well-deserved look from you.

Most of the heavy lifting is done by the dial and bezel. The combination of the brushed finish and expanding polished bevel on the lug adds up to an elegant but somehow still casual timepiece. The dial is a bit on the low-key side but that depends on your choice of dial.

The baton indices and matching hands are fitted with C3 SuperLuminova and are outlined in bold black. The dial really does have an undeniable charm that just puts a smile on my face.

The Halios Seaforth is an excellent dive watch that’s under $1,000. It’s a big value proposition that dive watch fans can’t afford to miss.

2. Aevig Corvid

Best Microbrand Watches Aevig Corvid
Best Microbrand Watches

Aevig Corvid is another brand that recently came to my attention. If you are looking for a rugged field watch that offers no fuss, the Aevig Corvid comes highly recommended.

A Field Watch for Urban Warriors

Aevig has plenty of eye-catching timepieces in their stable but it’s the Aevig Corvid that really drawn my attention. Aevig describes the Corvid as a “no nonsense easy to read field watch” and I can only nod in agreement.

The Corvid is housed in a 40mm case which can be quite small by current standards. However, the watch has plenty of heft and its combined dimensions give the watch a substantial feel. The case is made from 316L stainless steel and it gets the job done of providing a solid feel to the watch.

I was not expecting much from the caseback but I was pleasantly surprised. It’s a basic caseback but it has a block design which adds a great deal of character to the piece.

Of course, you can’t talk about this watch without mentioning the face. The dial reminds me of a vintage instrument panel found in early fighter planes. The dial features a metallic champagne color which adds more to the vintage look.

Moreover, the indices are all straight lines and topped with yellow orange circles for the hour hands. The dial looks clean and legible, and reminds me the best pilot watches out there. However, I was really thrown off with how the numbers are oriented.

Overall, the Aevig Corvid is elegant, simple, and offers good functionality.

3. Pantor Seahorse

Best Microbrand Watches

Pantor is perhaps the oldest microbrand on this list. However, their track record continues to impress. The Pantor Seahorse is one of the best microband watches for the savvy diver.

A Dive Watch That Won’t Break the Bank

The Seahorse was released back in 2013 by the Hong Kong-based Pantor brand.

Just by looking at it, it’s quite clear that the Seahorse looks are inspired by the legendary Rolex Submariner. The watch’s face is in matte and is populated with circular and shield-shaped hour markers. The dial stands out for its simplicity and legibility. The overall design looks like it’s the illegitimate child of the Seiko Turtle.

The case is made from 316L surgical grade stainless steel with a brushed finish. One of the best design elements of the Seahorse is the recessed crown. This reminds me of the Girard-Perregaux Seahawk but with a less exaggerated approach.

Pro divers who are looking for an affordable dive watch that simply works will have a lot to like about the Seahorse. It is waterproof up to 1,000 meters and it even has extras like the automatic helium valve at 9H. The dial markers are lumed and they are sufficiently illuminated even when you are underwater.

The watch is powered by the reliable Miyota 9015 automatic movement which also helps in keeping the cost down. It’s hard to go wrong with a dive watch that offers great value and functionality.

4. Farer Cobb

Best Microbrand Watches Farer Cobb

Farer is a British microbrand company that offers Swiss-made timepieces. Even the most jaded watch snob has found it difficult to ignore what Farer has to offer. When it comes to the Farer lineup, the Farer Cobb mechanical watch is one of the standouts.

Microbrand Watch Luxury

Without a doubt, the Farer Cobb caught my eye because of its colorful aesthetic. When it comes to luxury watches, a healthy dose of colors would be viewed as experimental or avant-garde. It’s really not the case with Farer – a brand that doesn’t shy away from colors.

The Cobb is a watch with a striking blue dial. The shade is somewhat of a midnight blue which simply looks elegant. Then, your eyes move on to the subdials which are now aqua. Afterward, you notice the other colors like yellow, red, and burnt orange.

Initially, this sounds like a mess on paper but Farer managed to nail all the design elements and colors without looking too garish. The execution is simply on-point.

The Cobb is a mechanical timepiece which happens to be a big step for the brand. The watch is powered with the ETA caliber 2894-2 movement which is more than a competent addition.

Lately, Farer has been knocking it out of the park with their offerings and the Cobb might just be my absolute favorite.

5. Marchand Legacy

Best Microbrand Watches

Previously, microbrands mostly turned to crowdfunding platforms in order to have the money to get their passion project going. Most microbrands were funded via Kickstarter and that applies to the Marchand Watch Company. The Marchand Legacy is one of the many babies of crowdfunding.

Designed by Racers for Racers

Just by looking at the Marchand Legacy, you’ll know that it’s a racing-inspired watch. As if the iconic racing checkered flag on its face is not the biggest tell.

For starters, the case is made from high-grade stainless steel and the bezel is knurled but can’t be adjusted. It comes with a screw-down crown which is quite a surprise. The Legacy has a waterproof rating of 10ATM – not exactly a dive watch but it should be fine against the occasional splash.

The watch is powered by the Miyota 9015 movement which provides reliable timekeeping. In addition, the strap is also very high-quality and reminds me of a svelte leather racing car seat.

Last but not the least, the dial is obviously the star here and it’s interesting to note that it’s constructed with layers. The skeletonized minute hand is one of the most unique design elements of the Legacy. Of course, you can see that the center of the dial features a checkered flag in various colors.

To put it simply, the Marchand Legacy will have your hearts racing.

6. Oak & Oscar Humboldt

Best Microbrand Watches Oak & Oscar Humboldt

During the explosion of the microbrands, Chicago-based Oak & Oscar is one of the companies that made the watch folks stop and notice. The Oak & Oscar Humboldt is perhaps the best timepiece from the company and is worth including in this list of the best microbrand watches.

A Daily-Driver With a Story to Tell

Firstly, the Oak & Oscar Humboldt is a 40mm millimeter piece which means that it has medium thickness. I prefer to go with 42mm but for some reason, the Humboldt felt just right on the wrist.

The watch has a 20ATM water resistance rating which is a nice touch considering that it’s not even a dive watch. The rotating bezel is bi-directional and comes in handy for tracking an additional timezone. The dial is protected by a double-domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating.

The dial is actually a two-layer sandwich design which is an Oak & Oscar thing. Whether you get the watch in a blue or grey dial, you’ll end up with a great-looking watch that you can wear almost everywhere. Nighttime use becomes possible with the Super-LumiNova BGW9 illumination. Also, the date window is located at the 6H which is another signature design element by the company.

Overall, the Humboldt is a distinct yet familiar effort from Oak & Oscar.

Microbrands Are Here to Stay

Thus, we’ve come to the end of our roundup of the best microbrand watches in the market.

Ultimately, the rise of microbrands excites many watch lovers.

As you can see, even independent companies can put out timepieces that are mind-blowingly good. Now, we’re not stuck with popular brands for our watch-collecting needs. After all, having more options is always a good thing.

Best Watches for Father’s Day

1. Seiko 5 Automatic Stainless Steel Watch

Best Watches for Father’s Day

The watch culture has certainly exploded in popularity over the years. However, this doesn’t mean that your father has caught on with the trend. With that said, the Seiko 5 Automatic Stainless Steel Watch is the ideal gift for a father who has yet to experience the joy of watches.

For Fathers Who Don’t Wear Watches

The Seiko 5 is considered to be a modern classic. One of the best things about the Seiko 5 is that it’s simple – the good kind of simple.

The black dial features white printed Arabic numbers for the hour hands in the inner circle and the minutes for the outer circle. The day/date aperture sits on the 3 o’clock section. The texture of the dial is fairly flat except for the 5-minute marker bumps.

Having said that, the dial looks clean and very legible. During night time, you’ll be treated to the Seiko 5’s luminous hands which offer excellent visibility for low light conditions.

The brushed stainless steel finish offers a matte look which I am a big fan of.

The Seiko 5 is an excellent watch to give to someone who’s not used to wearing timepieces. It looks simple but stylish and best of all, it will cost less than $100.

2. Rolex Submariner

Best Watches for Father’s Day

I am the biggest fan of the Rolex Submariner and if someone gave me one for Father’s Day, I’d be exceptionally thrilled. If you want a Father’s Day gift that will last a lifetime, it’s hard to go wrong with the Submariner.

A Timeless Father’s Day Gift

The Rolex Submariner can certainly be considered a high-end pick. However, don’t let the price scare you.

The Submariner is considered an entry-level model as far as Rolex watches go. The Submariner is also an excellent choice if you’re looking to introduce the father to Rolex timepieces or simply watch collecting in general.

The price comes with the Rolex signature workmanship quality and precision that go with each of their watches. Basically, giving a Rolex to your father means that he’ll be wearing it throughout his lifetime. The Rolex Submariner is very versatile as well as you can wear this from the fanciest galas to a child’s soccer game.

The Submariner is an excellent dive watch as well. Thus, if your father is the adventurer type, he will surely appreciate a timepiece that’s extremely durable and water resistant to 300 meters.

We have covered the Submariner extensively here in WatchIdeas, so we won’t be touching on the specifics. However, you can trust us that you’re getting a legendary Father’s Day gift with the Submariner.

3. Casio G-Shock GW9400 Rangeman

Best Watches for Father’s Day

For this list of the best watches for father’s day, we could just recommend G-Shocks and we’re done for the day. However, for something a little more specific, the Casio G-Shock GW9400 Rangeman is a pinnacle G-Shock model that’s hard not to fall in love with.

For The Dad Who Breaks Everything

The Casio G-Shock GW9400 Rangeman is the ideal timepiece for dad’s who tend to break everything. Whether he’s living a very active lifestyle or an all-around handyman, this is a watch that can withstand all sorts of punishment, thanks to the shock-proof resin case.

However, it’s more than just a heavy-duty watch.

The GW9400 Rangeman is a fully-functioning ABC watch which means that it comes with an altimeter, barometer, and compass. It also happens to have a thermometer which never seems to be included in the “Triple Sensor” label. However, it’s certainly a nice feature to have.

Speaking of features, the GW9400 Rangeman is a beast. It comes with Multi-Band Atomic Timekeeping, Tough Solar Power, Triple Sensor w/Direct Access Button, Historical Altitude Values, Magnetic declination correction, and many more.

While the G-Shock aesthetic is not for everyone, the GW9400 Rangeman is a pretty stylish watch on its own. This is a watch that makes a case for itself in terms of price, design, and functionality.

4. Suunto Traverse Alpha

Best Watches for Father’s Day

If the dad is a certified outdoor junkie or a hardcore fitness enthusiast, you can make him giddy with excitement by gifting the excellent Suunto Traverse Alpha.

A True Outdoor Utilitarian Watch

The Suunto Traverse Alpha is more of a smartwatch but not in a traditional sense. It’s an excellent tool watch for dads who are regularly braving the great outdoors.

For starters, it’s an extremely durable watch that should have no problems withstanding anything the backcountry can throw at it. You can wear the Traverse Alpha from 10 degrees up to 120 degrees and it should keep working. I’ve been using mine for the longest time and the stainless steel bezel and scratch resistant sapphire glass have yet to see any sign of wear and tear.

Perhaps the most standout feature of the Traverse Alphas is the ability to set POIs (aka waypoints). Waypoints can be marked specifically. For instance, if you have a good trail, you can mark the waypoint as a “trail. If you found a good bedding area, you can set it as a “bedding area” waypoint.

Even if your dad is not the most tech-savvy out there, he should have no trouble operating the watch and accessing its features. A true outdoor utilitarian watch indeed.

5. TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre 5 Day-Date

Best Watches for Father’s Day

The TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre 5 Day-Date is our recommendation if the dad is actually a watch collector. It’s a great timepiece that oozes with modern elegance and will look good with either a formal or casual dress.

For the Collector Dad

If your dad is actually a collector, the TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre 5 Day-Date makes for an excellent gift – thanks to its sports pedigree and precision.

The Carrera look is simply a classic. The proud lugs and polished bezel just screams classic design. This may not be the vintage Carrera that we all know and love, the Calibre 5 Day-Date retains its heritage in the dial. The matchstick hands and baton markers look similar to earlier Carreras.

In essence, it’s a watch that’s built for everyday use. The Calibre 5 Day-Date feels solid and comfortable on the wrist. It’s a good thing that it’s a great-looking watch but unobtrusive. Moreover, the brushed flanks and polished front really completes the look of the timepiece.

All in all, the TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre 5 Day-Date is an accessible Swiss timepiece that’s sure to bring a smile to any dad’s face.

6. Citizen AT0200-05E Eco-Drive Chronograph Canvas

Best Watches for Father’s Day

The Citizen AT0200-05E Eco-Drive Chronograph Canvas is one of the best watches for Father’s Day if you’re looking for something a bit more tactical.

The Tactical Dad’s Choice

For starters, the Citizen AT0200-05E Eco-Drive Chronograph Canvas is all about toughness. The stainless steel bezel and body along with the canvas band make for one excellently tough package.

The main selling point of the watch for me is definitely its design. The green canvas band plus the large, black dial really nailed the tactical design. The big, bold numerals enable excellent readability regardless of lighting conditions. The red seconds hand is an excellent detail and makes the dial pop out more.

Finally, this analog watch is powered by a Japanese quartz movement system which is on-point in terms of accuracy. In addition, the watch is very easy to use and adjust as well.

This military watch is bold, simple, and very functional. From grilling burgers to strutting about in the trail, this watch will have your dad covered.

Dad Watches Make Great Gifts

That wraps up our list of the best watches for Father’s Day. Regardless of your choice, hopefully, we have helped you choose the best timepiece for the special father figure in your life.

Best Watches for Construction Workers

1. Casio G-Shock Rangeman GW-9400

For this list of the best watches for construction workers, I could probably fill the list with Casio watches and it’s still going to be a pretty good roundup. When it comes to tough watches, it’s no wonder that Casio is a household name. The Casio G-Shock Rangeman GW-9400 is what I consider a quintessential Casio tough watch.

The Quintessential Tough Watch

The G-Shock Rangeman GW-9400 is a battle-tested timepiece and is widely considered to be one of the best G-Shock watches available.

However, the G-Shock Rangeman GW-9400 is more than just a tough watch, it’s a full-featured outdoor unit as well. One of its best features is the Triple Sensor which means that it comes with a compass, altimeter, thermometer and barometer. It’s not exactly something that you can use on the construction site but it’s certainly a nice bonus.

But the toughness of the Rangeman GW-9400 will surely come in handy on the site. As you might expect, this watch is highly resistant to scratches, bumps, shocks, and vibrations. It’s also low temperature resistant, so you can wear it while working in the cold. It’s also a Tough Solar model which means that you don’t have to worry about running out of juice.

Overall, the Casio G-Shock Rangeman GW-9400 is a must-have for construction workers, thanks to its legendary toughness and excellent value proposition.

2. Garmin Fenix 5X Sapphire

If you’re looking for a timepiece that offers more than your traditional tough watch, the Garmin Fenix 5X Sapphire is a top-notch choice.

Perfect for Challenging Environments

The Fenix 5X is also our top choice for the best ‘smartwatches’ for construction workers, so that’s saying something. The Garmin Fenix 5X Sapphire is primarily an outdoor watch but it’s going to feel at home at a construction site.

The rugged design of the Fenix 5X allows for some serious durability. It features PVD-coated stainless steel bezel, buttons and rear case – a highly reinforced timepiece that feels tough and solid to the touch. The Transflective technology reflects and transmit light at the same time, so you can read the watch even when you’re working on the site. Water resistance is also great and is rated at 100 meters.

As mentioned, the Fenix 5X Sapphire is a high-end outdoor watch that’s packed with features. The advanced GPS and GLONASS satellite reception makes navigation in the wild a breeze. The full color Topo U.S. mapping is also a great navigation feature. On top of being an amazing outdoor watch, it’s a feature-packed activity tracker as well.

Overall, the Fenix 5X is more than just a tough watch. It’s on the expensive side but it’s worth the investment.

3. Timex Expedition Rugged Metal

When it comes to rugged, tough watches that provide amazing value proposition, Timex needs no introduction. For construction workers, the Timex Expedition Rugged Metal is a reliable timekeeping companion.

Tough and Practical

Timex is a brand that has been around forever, so I tend to think that they know how to make watches. The Timex Expedition is one of the best collections the brand has to offer.

The biggest pro of this watch is its build quality and materials. That tends to be the case with the Expedition collection. This isn’t your Uncle Dave’s old Timex anymore that comes with a cheap metal case and bracelet. The Expedition Rugged Metal is a workhorse of a watch, thanks to its metal construction – it’s a watch that you can rely on while working on a construction site.

As with most Timex watches, the Expedition keeps good time. The Indiglo feature works as intended but the hands are luminous enough that you won’t need the aforementioned feature for legibility. In terms of comfort, this watch wears just right. The leather watch doesn’t just look good, it’s surprisingly comfortable as well.

Finally, the best reason to get this watch is for its price. For this amount of quality and durability, $50 is a steal.

4. Citizen Eco-Drive AT4010-50E Titanium Perpetual

Citizen’s Eco-Drive series is a beloved collection from this legendary Japanese watchmaker. In terms of durability, I went with the Citizen Eco-Drive AT4010-50E Titanium Perpetual.

Combination of Style and Durability

Who says that tough watches need to look like bulky tool watches? The Citizen Eco-Drive AT4010-50E Titanium Perpetual is modern and sleek but is still a reliable timepiece for construction workers.

As a Titanium watch, the case and bracelet deliver in terms of durability. It’s pretty much a daily-wear watch that you can wear from casual walks to construction work. However, with the elegant design and silver tone, I can see myself wearing it during formal events as well. The watch also offers a water resistance of 200 m (660 ft) which is pretty good.

The dial is also a standout and has good texture. However, legibility can be an issue. The three chronograph dials are laid out beautifully but it can be a bit too busy for some people. The atomic timekeeping is a great feature to have, especially if you care about accuracy.

Overall, the Citizen Eco-Drive AT4010-50E Titanium Perpetual is a stylish but durable solar-powered watch. It’s a bit on the expensive side but it should serve you well while on the site.

5. Luminox 3059 EVO Navy SEAL Colormark

The Luminox 3059 EVO Navy SEAL Colormark is one of our top picks for the best military watch. With that in mind, it’s hard not to recommend this watch for a list of the best watches for construction workers.

Rugged Build and Superior Construction

The Luminox 3059 EVO comes with the right amount of heft and bulk. Plus, it comes in safety orange so it’s perfect for construction workers. As far as looks go, this watch is handsome one, thanks to its great shape and the pop of orange color. Plus, it makes the watch easier to read.

But is this a tough watch?

Absolutely! The watch uses the innovative carbon compound material Carbonox. The material is six times lighter than steel and three times lighter than titanium. It’s also very resistant to chemicals and features a very low thermal extension. So when you’re working on the site, it doesn’t get very hot or cold. Luminox did a good job of taking ruggedness and durability to a whole new level.

Finally, it’s a watch that’s recommended by U.S. SEALs and pilots, so you can trust that it’s a reliable piece.

6. Casio PRO-TREK PRG-600

The Casio PRO-TREK PRG-600 is tagged as an “outdoor world timer” and its tough design and bevy of features are the reasons why it’s one of the best watches for construction workers.

The Watch You Take Outside

For starters, the Casio PRO-TREK PRG-600 is one of the newer versions of the Pro Trek series. As you can see, one of the stronger aspects of this watch is its look. It’s quite an outlier as far as Casio designs go. The round face is fairly easy to read, even without the backlight. I think the oversized numbers is a great design decision.

The PRO-TREK PRG-600 is reinforced for temperatures down to -10C and has a water resistance rating of 100 meters. For durability, Casio’s signature rugged design shines here and it’s a good thing that you don’t have to worry about charging because it’s a solar-powered watch.

Ultimately, the PRO-TREK PRG-600 should come in handy for construction workers. However, it does have a steep learning curve.

Reliable Timepieces for Hardworking Men

Best Watches For Construction Workers

That wraps up our list of the best watches for construction workers. These watches are not just tough for the sake of it, I also considered the features, usability, comfort, and value proposition. These timepieces won’t let you down while you’re hard at work.

Citizen Nighthawk Black Review: When Form Over Function Ain’t That Bad

Nighthawk Blackout Featured

The Citizen Nighthawk might be considered old news for many people but it’s a product line that I personally enjoy. It’s been around for many years now and it has gotten plenty of attention from casual fans to watch enthusiasts alike.

Today, we’re going to take a look at the Citizen Nighthawk Black Review, particularly the CA0295-58E model number.

Citizen Nighthawk: At a Glance

Citizen Nighthawk Black Review

The Citizen CA0295-58E Nighthawk Chronograph watch is a fairly unique timepiece with an aesthetic that stands out integrated with a bold design. One of the first things you’ll notice about this fully functional chronograph is the all-black color, from the watch face to the bracelet.

Before we get into the specifics, let’s check out the Citizen CA0295-58E Nighthawk’s key specs:

Packaging

The watch comes in the standard black Citizen watch box with the Eco-Drive logo on top. Inside, you’ll find the familiar cylindrical Citizen tin box which houses the timepiece itself. Inside the tin box is the watch and is secured by a durable foam. The box also comes with the usual documentation like a guarantee card, a multi-lingual instruction booklet, and a registration card.

As far as packaging goes, the whole package gets the job done of securing the Nighthawk watch and getting me excited to unbox the whole thing. However, outside of the presentation, there isn’t really much to it. I would have preferred to have a travel zipper case or watch roll so there’s more utility to the packaging rather than just plain eye candy but that’s just me.

Overall, the packaging looks great and it brought me the watch in one piece, so it’s hard to complain.

Citizen Nighthawk Design Elements

Citizen Nighthawk Black Review

As you can see, the Citizen Nighthawk Blackout watch is more of a fashion piece rather than a functional one. The blackout design really lends itself to a wide range of uses from casual wear to dressy events.

Below, we take a closer look at some of the more prominent design elements of the Citizen Nighthawk watch.

Watch Face

Citizen Nighthawk Black Review

When looking at the watch, it’s hard not to notice the total blackout design of the Citizen CA0295-58E Nighthawk. I have always been a fan of watches with dark faces, so it was easy for me to warm up to this watch. The watch is also referred to as the “Stealth Nighthawk” obviously in reference to the retired F-117 Nighthawk aircraft. As a flight inspired timepiece, this doesn’t really come as a surprise.

While the watch is labeled as “Nighthawk”, it’s not the same piece that most people associate with the name. Those who are familiar with Citizen watches are probably thinking of the model BJ7000-52E which is known for its information-laden dial.

Citizen Nighthawk Black Review

While they are both pilot watches, the CA0295-58E is a different beast. The Stealth Nighthawk is a celebration of the color black with a black iron-coated stainless steel case, black dial, black hands, pretty much black everything. The only design elements that are not black are the sub-dial hands and the logo which are in dark blue.

The watch case features a ribbed edge which is quite similar to a dive watch. However, it looks like the bezel seems to be internal along with the Tachymeter. The Arabic numerals and the hands are more of dark gray in color than black. The hands, numerals, and sub-dials all have a raised texture to them for better legibility.

Citizen Nighthawk Blackout_2

Perhaps the biggest drawback of the watch lies with its black on black aesthetic. To be specific, the watch face is very difficult to read in low-light conditions. Sure, the hands and Arabic numerals are illumined but unfortunately, it’s just not bright enough especially when it’s really dark. So it’s definitely not a very utilitarian timepiece as it sports a design that favors form over function.

Bracelet

Citizen Nighthawk Bracelet_2

The watch comes with a matching black stainless steel bracelet that looks great and has a nice weight to it.

At the clasp, you’ll see the etched Citizen logo. It’s pretty much your standard Citizen bracelet which is a good thing since I found their bracelets to be quite comfortable. The clasp works as intended but there’s the lack of adjustment options that you can expect from other luxury watches like Rolex.

Comfort and Wearability

I am not the biggest fan of leather straps, so it’s a good thing that Citizen used a stainless steel bracelet for the Stealth Nighthawk. While it’s a chronograph, I am happy to report that the weight of the watch is just right, not too heavy or too light which is just the way I like it.

It’s a 42 mm timepiece so it doesn’t look that large when it’s sitting on my wrist. The bracelet is easy to size and it feels secure while worn, thanks to the two-button safety system on the clasp. This feature is much appreciated since the watch is quite pricey.

On the downside, the crystal face does present some durability issues. So it’s not a watch that I would recommend for more rugged uses. Although it’s not technically a dive watch, the Citizen Nighthawk is water-resistant to 200 meters. Personally, I haven’t tested the waterproofness of the piece but I have no reason to doubt such a claim by Citizen. So feel free to shower or swim while wearing the watch.

Overall, it’s a fairly comfortable watch that you won’t mind wearing for daily usage.

Timekeeping Features

So what makes the CA0295-58E so appealing when it comes to timekeeping?

Well, you can’t really talk about this watch without mentioning the impressive Eco-Drive technology to power itself.

Like with other Citizen Eco-Drive watches, the Stealth Nighthawk doesn’t require batteries. The watch utilizes a lithium capacitor for power and it stores charge through solar power. There’s actually a solar panel just under the dial of the watch which absorbs light energy and converts it into electrical energy. However, it’s worth noting that the watch charges not just from solar energy but from other light sources as well.

The very same Eco-Drive technology also ensures that the watch works flawlessly for 20 years.

Citizen Nighthawk Black Review

Like with all Citizen Eco-Drive watches, the Nighthawk is powered by the B612 movement. The watch also features a chronograph, date display, and AM/PM indicator. I am rather a big fan of Citizen’s Eco-Drive movements due to the fact that it requires little to no maintenance. The movement is also known for its longevity and reliability.

Since the Nighthawk is solar-powered, you don’t have to worry about changing the batteries.

Pricing

The Citizen Nighthawk watch leans more on the high-end side, and the price definitely reflects that.

In terms of design, the Nighthawk really nails it with its bold form and aesthetic. I am quite a fan of dark/black watches so it was not hard for me to like the Citizen Nighthawk. Both the look and style of the watch are a home run by Citizen.

I also appreciate the versatility of the design since the watch can be easily dressed up or down by simply swapping the bracelet. The overall design also lends itself well to a wide range of use. Whether it’s for a sporting activity or a dress event, this watch will make you look good. Personally, I found myself using the Nighthawk during formal events.

As far as features go, the watch is quite flawless. The chronograph works as intended and I’ve had no problems operating the watch. The Eco-Drive feature is also standout and should please those who require a watch with less maintenance. It’s pretty much a “wear and forget” piece. Durability and reliability are also on-point which means that you’ll be having this watch for a long time.

So is this watch well worth the price? Well, considering what you’ll be getting out of the box and the quality of the watch itself, it’s well worth the price. It looks great and works as intended, sometimes, that’s all you ever need.

Should You Buy the Citizen CA0295-58E Nighthawk Watch?

For the price, this watch definitely doesn’t count as an impulse buy. This is a fairly high-end watch and it comes at a price that might be too steep for many people, especially when it’s essentially just a standard chronograph.

However, if you’re looking for a watch with a black watch with a bold design, the Citizen CA0295-58E Nighthawk comes highly recommended. The pictures don’t really do it just justice. You would have to see it in person to appreciate just how good-looking this timepiece is. The versatility of the watch also adds a lot of value to the package.

The build quality is above average and it features a movement that is both accurate and reliable. It also requires little to no maintenance and you don’t have to worry about changing the batteries from time to time. It’s also water-resistant to 200 meters which is a nice plus.

However, if you’re looking for a true utilitarian watch, you might want to look elsewhere. The black on black design rears its ugly head when it comes to overall readability. In low-light conditions (or sometimes even during well-lighted environments), you will struggle to read the watch face. Again, this is a watch that favors form over function.

The Bottom Line

The Citizen CA0295-58E Nighthawk is a very solid watch. The blackout design is clearly a polarizing feature but it if it’s your thing, then this is the perfect watch for you. Mine is still going strong and I’ve had yet to encounter any problems with it.

Just don’t expect this watch to perform hotly in the dark.

Armitron Watch Review: High-Style Watches for Less

Armitron Watch Review_Feat1

If you have been shopping for new watches in online superstores like Amazon, there’s a good chance that you’ve stumbled upon the brand Armitron – I know I did. From what I’ve seen, Armitron offers a wide range of watches and it seems to be a brand catered to the lower price market. It seems to be an interesting brand that compelled me to write this Armitron watch review.

There are so many unknown watch brands out there and they’re all competing for your attention. Many pull you in with their unique and beautiful designs while others attract you with their budget-friendly price point. Armitron seems to be the happy medium of both spectrums as it offers some good-looking designs (albeit derivative) but for a good price.

Today, we check out the Armitron watch brand. We take a look at the history of the brand, the things that we love and don’t love about it, and highlight some of the best Armitron watches out there.

About Armitron Watches

Armitron Watch Review

My first impression with Armitron is that it’s an up and coming brand and that it’s fairly new. However, I was surprised when I found out that it’s been around since 1956 and was founded by the gentleman called Eugen Gluck in Little Neck, New York. According to the Armitron website, the brand is:

Devoted to nurturing the spirit of individuality with high-quality, high-style watches at affordable price points.

This is about right because Armitron strikes me as a lifestyle, boutique watch brand. Also, Armitron claims that it looks to highlight personal style among others instead of being influenced by others. On the Armitron blog reads,

Driven by the understanding that a timepiece is both a common thread and a distinguishing factor.

True enough, Armitron provides a wide range of timepiece collections that should appeal to everyone. From Swarovski steel watches to rugged sports chronograph, there’s really is an Armitron watch for everyone.

Having said that, Armitron seeks to appeal to the younger generation with watches that come in hip designs but with affordable price points. Armitron is becoming very popular in the United States and is gaining quite a lot of traction in the UK as well. In fact, the brand has been endorsed by sports teams and professional athletes such as Jerry Rice, Boomer Esiason, Darryl Strawberry, Dwight Gooden, Larry Bird, and more. The brand is also a current sponsor of the New York Yankees.

Armitron Watch Review: The Pros and Cons

Armitron Watch Review

Is Armitron a good watch brand? Here are the things that we love and don’t love about this U.S.-based lifestyle watch brand.

What We Love

Wide Range of Options

Armitron Watch Review

One of the many things that are going for Armitron is its long list of watch collections. The brand has a collection for Dress, Travel, Casual, Sports, and Night Out watches. Also, both men and women have given a lot of attention so there’s definitely something here for everyone. There’s some overlap between the two categories in terms of themes but the designs and aesthetics are decidedly distinct.

Apart from these collections, Armitron also offers their watches by types like Sports, Analog, Solar, and Graffiti. The graffiti collection is particularly interesting due to the youthful street design that fits the name.

I have to admit that the sheer number of watches offered by Armitron can be quite overwhelming. However, with the lower-end price point, you can purchase multiple watches if you’re having difficulties when choosing. And this brings us to the next appealing aspect of Armitron

Budget-Friendly Timepieces

Perhaps the best thing about the Armitron brand is the price. Simply put, Armitron is a brand that targets the lower-end market. I’ve been checking out Armitron watches and there are only a few models that are sold for over $100 like the Armitron Adventure AD/1004BKTIBK.

Other than that, the majority of Armitron models are priced between $20 to $100, and that’s a lot of watches to choose from. That’s right, you can find Armitron units that are priced in the 20s like the Armitron 204604DBSVBK Dress Swarovski. But if you dig even deeper, you’ll find watches as low as $12 (although it’s for sale) such as the Armitron Sport 45/7053.

When it comes to price, it’s hard to argue with what Armitron has to offer. If you’re looking for timepieces that won’t break the bank, Armitron’s offering should do nicely.

Lively Designs

With a variety of collections comes a variety of designs. Many Armitron watches are quite eye-catching, especially from the aforementioned Graffiti collection where the designs are lively and colorful. Regardless of your aesthetic preference, you’ll find something to like with Armitron’s collection.

However, that’s not saying that all of Armitron’s watches have striking designs. In fact, many of them are fairly derivative – some models remind me of G-Shock watches while some seem to be inspired by Timex timepieces. Like most watch brands, some Armitron designs are good while there are also uninspired ones.

At the end of the day, it all comes down with the buyer’s preference. But since Armitron offers a wide range of designs, it’s not hard to find a watch for every unique aesthetic requirement.

Robust Timekeeping Tools

Armitron watches are fairly reliable. In terms of accuracy, there’s not a lot to complain about here. Many of Armitron’s watches are digital and quartz, so accuracy isn’t really an issue. In terms of durability, some models ended up on my daily beater rotations. I’m not expecting these watches to last forever but for the price, the durability is surprising.

Some of the watches come with added features, especially the digital chronograph models. These added features are fairly basic but they work as intended, most of the time. It’s not going to blow anyone’s mind but for a $20+ watch, it’s silly to complain.

What We Don’t Love

Quality Can Be a Hit or Miss

Armitron Watch Review

As mentioned, Armitron watches are geared towards the lower-end market. So as you might expect, the quality of the watches can vary especially concerning the price. The quality of the watch in the $20+ price point is very different when compared to the ones approaching the $100 price.

Some Armitron watches can feel rather light and plasticky. Again, my expectations were quite low but some of the models almost feel like a toy watch. Also, some watches look good on photos but once I’ve pulled them out of the box, I can’t help but get disappointed.

When buying Armitron watches, make sure that you manage your expectations, especially when it’s a lower-end model.

Durability Issues

The issue with budget-friendly watches is that the manufacturer has to cut some corners to keep the price down – that’s applies to Armitron as well. What I’m saying is that don’t expect these watches to have the highest quality materials.

For instance, the finish in many of the watches is not scratch or chip-resistant, making them very vulnerable to scrapes after high impact. Some of the bands are easily broken as well after months of use, even the leather strap variants. The clasps could use a bit of work as well since they are quite loose in some models.

Best Armitron Watches

If you’ve been reading this Armitron watch review, you’re probably wondering which models are worth checking out. Here are some of the best Armitron watches that you can get:

1. Armitron Sport 40/8284 Digital Chronograph

Armitron Watch Review

The Armitron Sport 40/8284 Digital Chronograph is quite possibly the quintessential Armitron watch. It’s big, loud, and high-style. Although it’s very reminiscent of some Casio G-Shock watches, it stands out on its own.

This sports watch looks great in person and although it’s priced at $20+, it feels surprisingly solid. It’s a digital chronograph watch that comes with features like lap time, alarm time, dual time, military time, back light functions, two zone LCD display, and more. Plus, it’s water-resistant up to 100 meters, so it’s a good option for water sports lovers as well.

Overall, it’s a pretty good digital chronograph watch considering the very low price. It’s a good daily beater for sure.

2. Armitron 20/4935 Day/Date

Armitron Watch Review

The Armitron 20/4935 Day/Date is one of the more expensive offerings from the brand (but still very affordable). This watch is simple but stands out with its handsome design and striking face. The hands are luminous as well, so that’s a nice bonus.

The Armitron Men’s 20/4935 Day/Date is a casual dress watch which means that you can wear this every day but will work to a formal dinner as well. The higher price also ensures that the quality and construction are better.

Overall, it’s a great stainless steel watch if you require a less sporty offering from Armitron.

3. Armitron 204677BLSV Stainless Steel

Armitron Watch Review

For another solid option, the Armitron 204677BLSV Stainless Steel fits the bill perfectly. The sunburst dial is a good design element and this what made me buy it.

Although it reads Tachymeter on the watch, it doesn’t have such a feature which is understandable considering the price. It does have a day/date function and 24-hour subdials. In terms of features, the watch is quite bare-bones but I imagine some people would prefer it this way.

Ultimately, the Armitron 204677BLSV Stainless Steel is a highly-fashionable piece and keeps time accurately. It’s a good mid-range Armitron option.

Armitron Watch Review: Should You Buy Them?

Armitron Watch Review_Feat

We end this Armitron watch review by giving a verdict of the brand. Is it a good brand? I think so! However, since it’s a budget-friendly brand, the watches come with problems that are usually common with affordable timepieces.

The best part about Armitron is its wide variety of options and cool designs. Nothing particularly mindblowing but its offerings are solid for the most part. The value proposition is pretty good but you have to keep in mind that other brands like Timex and Casio also compete at this price point.

Overall, Armitron is a competent lower-end watch brand and its watches are worth checking out for value seekers.

Tudor Black Bay VS Rolex Submariner [Comparison Review]

Tudor Black Bay VS Rolex Submariner

When it comes to luxury dive watches, Rolex has been at the top of the game due to the legendary Submariner watch. The Rolex Submariner is a watch that needs no introduction. For instance, it’s a top-rated dive watch both in mechanical and aesthetic aspects. Personally, the Submariner is a top 5 watch. However, in today’s Tudor Black Bay Vs Rolex Submariner comparison, a challenger is poised to give the Submariner a run for its money.

Although Tudor is Rolex’s subsidiary brand, it’s not widely considered to be an alternative to Rolex – at least in the past. Times have changed and tables have been turned. With Tudor’s return to the U.S. market, it has made some of the most impressive timepieces that nicely complements its parent company, Rolex. Certainly, one of the best Tudor watches has got to be the Tudor Heritage Black Bay.

For this Tudor Black Bay VS Rolex Submariner head-to-head, we take a look at these two amazing timepieces and hopefully help you answer the question, “should I get a Rolex or Tudor?”

Tudor Black Bay VS Rolex Submariner: The Comparison

Size and Design

Tudor Black Bay VS Rolex Submariner

Based on the specs, the Tudor Heritage Black Bay is bigger both in diameter and height. The 1 millimeter difference in size may not sound like much but once you have both watches on your wrist, you’ll see a considerable difference. If you have a smaller wrist, the difference in size becomes a lot more pronounced. Also, the extra thickness of the Tudor makes it taller than the Submariner. The taller case sides allow the Black Bay to sit closer to the wrist. For the size, I think both watches fairly similar. It’s all down to your personal preference.

When looking at the design, it’s obvious that there’s a shared heritage between the Submariner and Black Bay. The Submariner features a buttoned-down approach to design while the Black Bay has a more laid-back feel. If the Rolex Submariner was designed by men in lab coats, the Tudor Black Bay was designed by bearded men in no-socks boots. The Black Bay feels more relaxed and filled with nostalgic details. A good example of this is Tudor’s gilt dial, the splash of red on the bezel, and the riveted bracelet.

Tudor Black Bay VS Rolex Submariner

On the flip side, the main thing that goes for the Rolex Submariner is the word “Rolex” itself. The tighter hand stack, more complex ridges, and better finish are just some of the more superior design elements of the Sub. The details on the Rolex are also leagues ahead when compared to the Tudor. It’s a legendary design for a reason.

Build Quality and Construction

Tudor Black Bay VS Rolex Submariner

When it comes to the build quality, the Submariner and Black Bay don’t disappoint. However, the Sub boasts some finer details and a slightly nicer finish if you care to look. Considering the cost difference between these two watches, it’s not a surprise that the Submariner comes out on top in terms of build quality. Having said that, both watches have excellent quality.

Both watches feel solid and robust, and there’s no rattling or components that are off. Try rotating the bezels from both watches and you’ll never get the impression that it’s made of cheap plastic.

Tudor Black Bay VS Rolex Submariner

The major difference between the two is the purpose for which these watches are built. The Black Bay is a Tudor Heritage model which means that it uses traditional parts. For instance, the Black Bay makes use of a matte black dial in comparison to the Sub’s ceramic dial.

Another major difference is that the Submariner uses a ceramic insert while the Black Bay has an aluminum bezel insert which is less durable and resistant to scratches. The Tudor’s case looks to be inspired by the vintage dive watches of old while Rolex has abandoned that case design many years ago.

Movement and Timekeeping

Rolex 3130 Movement

The movement is where most of the price difference comes from. The Submariner uses the “No Date” Rolex caliber 3130 which is, of course, an in-house movement. The 3130 movement boasts 48 hours of power reserve, a frequency of 28,800 beats per hour, and a track record of long-term durability. The movement is fitted with a Parachrom hairspring for added durability and it becomes resistant against magnetic fields.

Tudor Caliber MT5602

On the other hand, the 2016 model of the Black Bay comes with a caliber MT5602 which is a COSC certified movement. The MT5602 movement offers an impressive 70 hours power reserve which is almost a day of power compared to the Sub’s power reserve. It’s worth noting that this is the first run of the Black Bay that runs on an in-house movement, not a modified ETA movement like with the previous models.

In terms of accuracy, the Submariner clearly has the upper hand with the unprecedented -2/+2 second per day accuracy. Conversely, the Black Bay’s accuracy comes down to a respectable -4 and +6 seconds per day. At the end of the day, the layman can’t probably tell the difference but purists will likely choose the Submariner.

Comfort and Wearability

The Submariner comes with the signature solid link Oyster bracelet and it’s a strong case for the “if it ain’t broke” mantra. It’s the mainstay of the Rolex brand and it’s definitely one of the best elements of the Submariner. Furthermore, the Oysterlock clasp prevents any accidental opening and the Glidelock system enables you to adjust the watch without tools. This is an important feature for divers who are wearing the Sub over their diving suit.

Tudor Black Bay VS Rolex Submariner

On the other hand, we have the Tudor Black Bay which boasts an array of bracelet/strap options. I got the riveted stainless steel bracelet model for this review and it’s fitted with folding buckle and safety clasp. The bracelet is actually a redesign of the old Tudor bracelets from the 1950s to 1960s. The riveted bracelet does have a memorable design which adds a lot of personality to the piece.

The key difference between the two bracelets is in the clasp which also affects the overall difference in wearability and comfort. Although the two claps work in virtually the same way, the Submariner’s clasp features a micro-adjust system which is the aforementioned Glidelock system. Making adjustments with the Rolex Submariner 114060 is far easier when compared to the Black Bay since the latter needs an adjustment tool.

Pricing

The pricing is obviously an important factor when deciding between the Tudor Black Bay VS Rolex Submariner. Firstly, when you look at the retail price for both watches, you’ll see that the Submariner more or less costs double the Black Bay. Secondly, as a subsidiary brand of Rolex, it’s no surprise that the Tudor Black Bay is much less expensive when compared to the Sub. So if you’re going for the price alone, the Tudor Black Bay is a solid luxury watch.

However, once you look past the actual price, you’ll see that there’s merit to choosing the Submariner over the Black Bay – I’m referring to the resale value. For instance, if you take a glance at the secondhand market, you’ll notice that the Black Bay decreases in value whereas, the Submariner is sold higher than the retail price. If you’re planning to resale the watch down the line, the Submariner is the clear winner.

Overall, collectors who are looking for a dive watch but can’t quite splurge for a Rolex, the Tudor Black Bay is more than a viable alternative. Alternatively, the venerable Submariner is a legendary timepiece with a rich history, so it’s hard to go wrong with a Sub especially for first-time collectors.

Tudor Black Bay VS Rolex Submariner: The Verdict

Tudor Black Bay VS Rolex Submariner

In this Tudor Black Bay Vs Rolex Submariner comparison, both watches are fairly similar with some key differences. However, there’s no doubt that both of these watches are excellent in their own right. This is one of the many reasons why people are stuck with the Black Bay vs Submariner dilemma.

Ultimately, the main deciding factor for choosing between the two is the price point. The Submariner is almost $8,000 which is within the price expectation for a Rolex. The Submariner commands respect with its build quality and near-flawless design. Overall, it really is one of the most beautiful watches ever made and it’s worth the price tag.

On the other hand, we have the Black Bay which costs less than half of the Submariner. Also, the Tudor goes for a faux vintage vibe but it’s decidedly the more playful and relaxed timepiece, for instance. If you’re into a more youthful and fun watch that’s not going to break the bank, the Tudor Heritage Black Bay gets my highest recommendation.

Best Outdoorsman Watch

1. Suunto Traverse Alpha

Best Outdoorsman Watch

When we make a list about the best outdoor watches, the Suunto Traverse Alpha will likely find itself on the list. Why not? It’s a very durable watch with rugged construction, and Suunto didn’t exactly skimp the features.

For the Tactical Outdoorsman

For any outdoorsman, a rugged and reliable timepiece is the most important. This is why the Suunto Traverse Alpha is our top pick for this list of the best outdoorsman watch. The Traverse Alpha is housed in a composite case with a fixed knurled steel bezel. Plus, the watch is protected by sapphire crystal lens, making it less susceptible to scratches. It comes with a water-resistant nylon wrist strap which is great even it starts raining outside.

However, the Traverse Alpha isn’t just a rugged smartwatch, what makes it a top pick are the features. The watch comes with GPS and GLONASS technology and it works beautifully based on my experience. You can also set built-in shortcuts for saving your current position as a point of interest or POI. To get the most out of the Traverse Alpha’s features, make sure to download the Movescount app.

Finally, the woodland design of the watch just screams tactical and I’m sure many outdoorsmen will appreciate that. Wrapping up, it’s certainly one of the best outdoor watches that you can get.

2. Casio Pro Trek PRW2500T Tough Solar

Best Outdoorsman Watch

Choosing an outdoor watch from Casio is a daunting task. After all, Casio is the leading brand when it comes to tough watches. For the hardcore outdoors person, the Casio Pro Trek PRW2500T Tough Solar is our top recommendation.

Traditional But Never Outdated

The Pro Trek PRW2500T is an excellent choice if you’re looking for a traditional outdoorsman watch. It’s a digital timepiece with a traditional Casio design. The watch is aimed directly at the outdoor adventure types where it truly shines.

The dedicated compass, altimeter, and barometer are here and the buttons are large enough for easy operation, even if you’re wearing gloves. The screen is large enough to display two levels of data like the current time, visual compass, and numerical heading. The inclusion of tide data and 200m water resistance makes the Pro Trek PRW2500T a solid all-around unit.

Furthermore, this watch is a tough solar mode which means that the battery is solar-rechargeable. Therefore, you’ll never have to worry about running out of juice while outdoors. With a single full charge, you can get 5 months of use without charging with light. Now, that’s a real heavy-duty watch.

Wrapping up, I compare the Pro Trek line to the Jeep Wrangler. The watch retains its basic design over the years but its build quality and feature sets continue to improve.

3. Garmin Instinct

Best Outdoorsman Watch

I’ve been debating if I’m going to list the Garmin Fenix or the Garmin Instinct for this list. Ultimately, I went with the Garmin Instinct because it’s a solid outdoor watch but it’s a lot less expensive compared to the Fenix.

Heavy-Duty Piece That Offers Great Value

The Garmin Instinct has a wide range of activity-tracking features but it truly shines with its navigation features. If you value navigation more than anything else, the Garmin Instinct supports GPS, GLONASS, and Galileo. Connecting to any of these satellites is quick and easy, even when you’re in the middle of nowhere.

The Instinct features low-resolution, non-color display which is hardly a big deal unless you’re looking to use TOPO maps. In addition, you can upload your routes to the watch which you can use as a reference while outdoors. Or perhaps, you can go old-school by using the Instinct’s built-in compass.

In terms of durability, the watch is constructed to U.S. Military standard 810G so it has excellent thermal, shock and water resistance. For sure, it’s durable enough to take a few knocks. Despite its durability, the Instinct feels light while on the wrist, thanks to its excellent materials and construction. It’s a heavy-duty watch but it doesn’t feel like you’re wearing a brick.

Overall, the Instinct isn’t exactly a full-featured timepiece but it’s a very reliable GPS watch. Also, the price makes it a great buy for hardcore outdoor enthusiasts.

4. Timex T49612 Expedition Shock

Best Outdoorsman Watch

Now, here’s our top budget pick. If you want a super durable timepiece that won’t break the bank, the Timex T49612 Expedition Shock is certainly worth checking out.

Designed for Outdoor Torture

When a watch is marketed as “Designed For Outdoor Torture Tests”, you have to take notice. Sounds like it’s an exaggeration but the T49612 Expedition Shock is indeed one tough customer. The durable resin case is putting in the work and the construction makes it seem like it’s built like a tank. Honestly, the T49612 Expedition Shock can give the G-Shocks a run for their money in terms of durability. The water-resistance rating of 200 meters is also a nice bonus.

Unfortunately, the watch is rather light on features, so this is not the piece for you if you’re looking for advanced features. It does come with a digital compass that works well. The watch can also be illuminated with the Indiglo light up system which works great in low-light conditions.

However, the best feature of this watch is actually the price. This is one of the best hiking watches under $100 due to its excellent durability. If I have to find a drawback, the strap will eventually give out especially with regular use.

5. Luminox 3051.BO Navy Seal Colormark

Best Outdoorsman Watch

I am a big fan of Luminox, especially of the 3050 series. The Luminox 3051.BO Navy Seal Colormark is endorsed by the Navy Seal, so it’s an easy recommendation from me.

Navy Seal Toughness

The rough and tough nature of the great outdoors doesn’t have a fighting chance against the 3051.BO Navy Seal. Its durability is attributed to the Polycarbonate carbon reinforced case, making it a true tough timepiece but still manages to be lightweight. The face is protected by the durable mineral crystal, providing it with the much-needed scratch resistance.

Despite its bulky and rugged exterior, the 3051.BO Navy Seal is a beautiful masculine watch. The BO designation refers to the blackout color of the watch and the black matte finish adds a tactical look to it. With the blackout colorway, it’s understandable if you think that legibility will be a concern. However, you don’t have to worry about legibility because this watch boasts top-notch luminosity. Whether in nighttime or underwater, you should have no problem reading the watch.

Best Outdoorsman Watch

Overall, if this watch is good enough for the Navy Seals, it should be good enough even for the most hardcore outdoorsman.

6. Citizen BU2055-16E Military Quartz

Best Outdoorsman Watch

Citizen is a Japanese brand that’s known for making high-quality and reliable watches. The Citizen BU2055-16E Military Quartz is no exception.

Timeless Tactical

The Citizen BU2055-16E Military Quartz watch is yet another tactical watch that many outdoor enthusiasts will love. For starters, the tactical look and canvas strap really make the look of this military-style timepiece. Just a word of warning, the watch is quite sizable at 43mm so it might look big on smaller wrists.

From the construction to the materials used, the BU2055-16E just feels high-quality and robust. The black ion-plated stainless steel case does a great job of adding durability to the piece. The dark green Cordura strap is another durability feature but since it’s canvas, it’s not ideal for wet conditions. However, you can easily swap out the default strap with either a 19mm or 20mm replacement strap.

Also, it’s worth mentioning that it’s an Eco-Drive model which means that it can be charged with solar power. It’s a great watch for those who are looking for something simple but tough.

Brave the Wild Outdoors With These Watches

This concludes our list of the best outdoorsman watch. I’m hoping that I’ve made it easier for you to choose your next outdoor timekeeping companion.

In case you are looking for some more advance tech in your outdoor adventures, you may want to have a look to the best outdoor smartwatches.

Wenger Watches Review

Today, the Wenger watch brand stands as a famous watchmaker from Switzerland. However, it started as a company that sold cutleries and other items like the Swiss Army Knife.

The company provides an exciting selection of watches that rival many expensive brands on the market. Luckily, their watches come at relatively affordable prices.

Many people might doubt the price offered by this company. After all, Swiss watches cost a fortune. But if you are to look at any Wenger watches, you will accept the fact that their timepieces have impressive features.

Are you anxious to get a Swiss Wenger watch or any other product the brand has to offer? If yes, this Wenger watches review will give you great insight into this brand and reveal the best models on the market.

Wenger Watches Review: A Short History of the Company

In 1893, the company started as a knife factory in the house of Paul Boechat & Cie, situated in Courtelle, Switzerland. As time goes, the owner of Paul Boechat & Cie brought in Theodore Wenger in 1897, a minister who had served in the United States. During his time in the company, one of the first things he introduced into the production line was spoons and forks.

In the 1900s, the company expanded, building a new 1700 square meter factory, but they never stopped to produce cutleries. However, fast forward to 1988, they began to make watches.

Wenger was taken over by Victorinox in 2005, a company that was also known for its quality Swiss Army Knives production. Even as Victoronix became in charge, Wenger continues to develop what they produced initially. In 2013, Victoronix introduced the Wenger’s knives into its collection while Wenger focuses on producing watches and travel gear.

As of today, the travel gear and watch production have made Wenger brand very popular all over the world. The best part is that their timepieces don’t cost a fortune, and it offers impressive qualities. In this Wenger watches review, we will reveal to you the best models this brand has to offer.

How Much Does a Wenger Watch Cost?

If you check out many of Wenger Swiss watches reviews, the prices on each of them will interest you. Most Wenger’s timepieces on the market go for $200. At half that price, you can even get a sturdy leather watch of this brand with original Swiss movements.

Do you prefer something that goes above the $500 range? Well, the company has the Chronograph Classic XLS Swiss Army Watch, which comes at a price above $600.

Do Wenger Watches Come with a Warranty?

On a general stand, the Wenger brand offers a 3 years warranty on their timepieces. This warranty only covers any defect on the movements, dial face, and hand right from the day you buy the watch. But if you have any issues with the straps, crystal, battery, or case, this does not concern the company.

If the watches you buy meet the conditions of the warranty, the company might replace it with a new one of equal or higher value. But avoid dismantling the watch as this act can terminate the warranty.

Also, ensure that the product has a “Genuine” engraving. The acceptable words include Wenger, Swiss Military, SAK Design, or Genuine SAK. For products without these labels, the warranty service does not extend to them.

Best Wenger Watches Review

In this section, we have chosen the best watches that come with impressive features and are quite affordable. They also offer accurate timekeeping, look luxurious, and can last long even after prolong use.

Wenger Watches Review

If you are looking for one of the best Wenger watches with a sturdy build and impressive features, you need to consider this Roadster Swiss Quartz. It has a build that promises years of use and top-class movement. Besides, it goes with any formal or regular outfit while providing accurate time and excellent legibility.

Tough Body

Let’s start the Wenger roadster watch review by looking at the body that houses the internal parts of this watch. First, it has a stainless steel body that looks good with most outfits and doesn’t scratch or break easily. On top of the case, it has a rotating bezel that secures a scratch-resistant crystal that protects the dial.

Lightweight Watch

Even if it looks like a robust accessory to own, the roadster weighs a few pounds and has a 45mm round watch case. Thanks to these features, this timepiece will not add extra weight to your wrist. Also, the watch doesn’t look out of place when worn on a medium-sized wrist.

Accurate Movements

Under the case back, a Swiss quartz movement controls the hands of the timepiece. First, this feature provides the precision needed to provide accurate readings.

Also, it tends to use less power, thereby maximizing the watch battery. Hence, you will save more cash since you won’t need to replace the battery regularly.

Opinion and Drawback

At a price of less than $200, this fantastic timepiece offers toughness and a luminous dial for easy reading. You will also have access to a date window on its bold dial. However, the silicone band feels uncomfortable on the skin, but this watch will add more elegance to your casual outfit.

2. Wenger Men’s 0641.102 Sea Force 3H

Wenger Watches Review

Do you want a feel of an elite timepiece from the Wenger dive watches collection? Then the Wenger Sea force 3H is the best choice for your next diving trip or any other marine activity. This watch has an elegant black dial and it features a silicone strap that stays secured to the wrist.

Since it is suitable for outdoors and wet conditions, the Wenger Sea Force has a crystal that works well in the ocean or swimming pool. This timepiece uses a sapphire crystal that can withstand potential bumps on hard surfaces. Also, the glass allows easy reading in bright sunlight and from any direction.

Comfortable Strap

The watch extends its toughness to its black silicone strap that holds it to your arm. As expected, this part of the Wenger Seaforce watch can withstand any type of moisture and promise years of unlimited use. It also features a clasp that prevents unexpected slips while the silicone strap feels comfortable on the skin.

 High-Level Water Resistance

An ideal dive timepiece should offer accurate readings, even in areas with extremely wet conditions. For this reason, Wenger ensures this watch is water-resistant up to 200m, and the case rust free. But it cannot handle a dive of more than 200 meters underwater.

Opinion and Drawbacks

For its price, the Seaforce does an excellent job as a nautical-inspired accessory. After all, it promises high performance at sea or land level.

However, it comes with a few issues that can make any watch snob lose interest. First, the watch looks bulky for people with smaller wrists. Furthermore, the rubber strap tends to trap moisture, which can irritate your skin.

3. Wenger Men’s Attitude Day/Date’

Wenger Watches Review

The Wenger Attitude Day/Date timepiece comes as a perfect timepiece for people that need portable sports watches. The watch has a design that allows you to use it with ease and also look elegant to complement your outfits. Minimalist Dial

Looking closely at the dial, you will discover several reasons to add this watch to your shopping list. First, it offers a clean dial with bold Arabic numeral markers for quick reading. At the right end of the watch face, a large display shows the current day and date. With this feature, you will always stay updated about days of the week.

Sturdy Build

This sports watch consists of a stainless steel case that lasts for a lifetime. At the top, a stationary bezel secures the hardened crystal that maintains its original look even after a fall. Furthermore, since the Wenger Attitude has a sturdy and secure silver band, you don’t have to worry about the timepiece falling off from your wrist.

Reasonable Price

Looking at the impressive features offered by this timepiece, its price comes as a generous fit for the product. What’s more, its long battery life reduces the need for regular replacements, thus saving you money in the long run.

Opinion and Drawbacks

When it comes to legibility, this product deserves a top spot on most Wenger men’s watches reviews. When used indoors and outdoors, you can see the indexes and hands. However, this timepiece does not have luminous features for night reading and does not last as long as advertised.

4. Wenger Women’s 01.1021.109 Urban Classic 3H

Wenger Watches Review

For women that want to have a taste of Wenger watches, you should consider this beautiful timepiece. At first glance, you will surely fall in love with Women’s Urban Classic 3H due to its impressive features.

First, it has an elegant body that looks attractive on the wrist. Also, like most timepieces on Wenger women watch review, the Urban Classic offers durability and precise timekeeping.

Adjustable Band

The watch has a sturdy leather strap that complements the elegant case and it lasts long, even after frequent uses. The best part is that if it does not fit your wrist, you can adjust the strap with ease. Thanks to this option, there’s no need to take it to a jeweler. Aside from that, you can wear the watch straight out of the box with ease.

Ideal Build for Everyday Use

As expected, continuous use of an elegant watch regularly can reduce its beauty, quality, and performance. With this mind, Wenger built this timepiece with materials that can withstand constant bumps and slips. Apart from its stainless steel case, the Urban Classic has a robust leather strap that can cope with any weather conditions.

Opinion and Drawback

The elegant PVD gold case and the impressive water-resistant features of this timepiece make it a worthy investment. It also comes with a comfortable strap that you can adjust and a dependable Swiss quartz movement that offers accurate timekeeping. But it feels bulky and looks awkward especially on smaller sized wrists.

Should I Consider Getting a Wenger Watch?

Although this Swiss brand started as a kitchenware company, it has produced impressive watches that are exciting to own. Like other affordable and popular timepiece brands like Seiko and Invicta, they offer a wide selection of watches that fall beneath the $500 range.

Best Avi-8 Watches Review

1. AVI-8 Hawker Hurricane Bulman AV-4068 -02

Avi 8 Watches Review

We begin this AVI 8 watches review with a look at this exciting piece. Named after George Bulman, the Avi-8 Hawker Hurricane Bullman offers tribute to individuals in the aircraft industry that played significant roles in defending British airspace.

 Dial

Avi 8 Watches Review

Looking at the dial on this watch, you will understand why we picked this timepiece as one of the best Avi-8 watches. For one, the watch face boasts of a rough layer that still looks elegant. A closer look at the dial reveals lines that enhance the stunning design on the dial.

The Bulman features two sub-dials – one of the six o’clock position and another at the 12 o’clock position. Since both features have legible markings, it’s easy to read them at a glance. Furthermore, you will also enjoy the color changes displayed by the hands of these parts of the watch.

The watch also extends its uniqueness to the main dial. Here, you notice 4 Arabic numeral markers while it has dots that represent the other hours of the day. Since the luminous markings stay between both symbols, you can read this watch in the dark or poorly lit environments.

On the hands, the Bulman uses a sword shape design that also glows in the dark. As expected, this feature matches the dial perfectly. However, the second hand maintains a red tip that does not shine.

Case

Avi 8 Watches Review

Unlike most watches in the market, this timepiece maintains a slim build. With a 45mm width, the piece might cover your wrist. But since it has a slim profile, it should rest comfortably.

The left edge of the case houses suitably sized pushers and a crown. Thanks to this design, you will not feel any metal pressing into your skin.

Mineral glass covers the dial and performs well in bright lights. At the back of the case, you will notice an impressive engraving of the Hawker Hurricane.

 Movement

Avi 8 watches review

On this timepiece, the AVI-8 swaps its Miyota movement for the Hattori Japan Quartz VD5. Fortunately, this change provides precise and accurate timekeeping. It also offers smooth movements while supporting dual subdials.

Strap

Image result for AVI-8 bullman strap

A sturdy leather strap secures the strap to your wrist. When worn for the first time, the bracelet might feel tight. But with regular wear, it fit will feel snug.

When it comes to comfort, you will appreciate what the Bulman strap has to offer. With a width of 22mm, this part of the watch looks good on any wrist size.

Drawbacks

The Bulman might be one of the best avi-8 watches, but it has some downsides that might make have a rethink.

First, the plastic enclosures that surround the subdials do not match the general design of the watch. It even makes the accessory look like a cheap knockoff. But if you look at the dial, these plastic features tend to go with its black background.

As the watch pays homage to military aircraft, it houses an RAF roundel on its left side. But the plastic sub-dial circles look out of place.

2. AVI-8 Hawker Hurricane 4011-01

Avi 8 Watches Review

If you want more from this Avi 8 watches review, then the Hawker Hurricane should grab your attention. On this timepiece, the AVI-8 draws inspiration from famous fighter planes that ruled the skies of WWII. Even if it has premium specs, this vintage accessory will not drain your savings.

The AVI-8 Hawker Hurricane was selected as one of the Best Pilot Watches.

If you check out any avi-8 hawker hurricane Amazon has to offer, you will discover that this timepiece promises a design that will attract compliments.

The Case

Image result for AVI-8 Hawker Hurricane 4011-01

On the Hawker Hurricane, a 42mm stainless steel case houses the internal parts. Perfect for any wrist, it has a finished look that enhances the feel of the watch. It also has small lugs that fit its overall look.

To adjust the settings, the Hawker Hurricane has a crown and a pair of chronograph pushers. You can find these features at the right edge of the polished bezel.

The watch uses a mineral crystal that can cope with knocks and falls. Since its clear, you can check the date or time quickly with ease. However, it has an unhealthy amount of glare, especially in extreme light.

Dial

Avi Watch 8 watches review

Following its regular trend, AVI-8 places an RAF roundel on the dial of this watch. But this time, the symbol stays on the chronograph found at the nine o’clock position. If you move to the right, a date window provides the current date while a Tachometer scale covers the outer part of the dial.

Lume coated hands offer legibility in poor light. For sunny areas, the sides also provide the same level of readability.

Strap

Avi 8 watches review

For a vintage watch like this one, a mustard leather strap comes as an ideal option. With this in mind, the watchmaker places this type of strap on the clock. In the end, the strap fits with the general look of the watch itself.

An engraved clasp keeps the watch safe from accidental slips. Like the strap, this part of the watch fits the general theme offered by AVI-8. Besides, it provides the same level of security as a deployment clasp.

At this point, you will notice that the Hawker Hurricane has displays exquisite style. After all, every part of this watch looks well sized and designed. Surprisingly, the accessory projects the aircraft theme that it uses to create its watches.

Movement

Under the hood, a Japanese quartz movement offers accurate and precise timekeeping. But since it’s not an Avi-8 hawker hurricane automatic watch, the watch comes at an affordable price.

Drawbacks

It’s easy to fall in love with this pilot watch. After all, it has felt snug on your skin and provides accurate measurements. But like most items on this post, it has a few flaws that might not frustrate you.

For instance, the crystal might have a few cracks and scratches. Besides, the band might become weak with frequent use, thereby making it feel cheap. You might also notice that the hands do not glow well enough in the dark.

3. AVI-8 AV-4052 Hawker Hunter Watch

Avi 8 Watches Review

For this watch, the brand draws inspiration from the Hawker Hunter plane. By using this design, AVI-8 provides a unique timepiece that will attract the attention of watch enthusiasts. Compare to every watch on our list, the Hawker Hunter timepiece has a more unique elegant look than the others.

Case

Image result for AVI-8 AV-4052 Hawker Hunter Watch

As mentioned earlier, this watch pays homage to the Hawker Hunter fighter jet. However, it reminds us of the instrument panel and cockpit featured on this aircraft. For example, it has a case that hosts piston-like pushers and a new dial.

The case itself comes from stainless steel which offers durability and a clean look. It also promises a water resistance of 50M that allows use in the rain. You can even take this watch for a swim in the pool.

In terms of size, the Avi-8 hawker hunter case will not add extra bulk to the wrist. It has a width of 45mm and a thickness of 12mm that can fit perfectly into your sleeve cuff.

Dial

Image result for AVI-8 AV-4052 Hawker Hunter Watch

Looking at the dial, you will find a date window. Stopwatch minute hands dial, date window, and stopwatch second hand. Usually, a combo of these options on the same space will look uncomfortable. However, the dial on this watch can contain all features and allow quick readings by the user.

The dial comes in three colors – white, black or grey. This variety allows you to go for a model that fits your style.

Movement

It’s normal to find this watch with a TMI VX43E21C movement. Surprisingly this option does not stand as a popular option with many brands. However, the TMI movement comes from the Seiko group, and generally, this is known to be quartz.

Now to cut the long story short, it works with a quartz chronograph movement. This feature makes the watch quite affordable.

Strap

Avi 8 watches review

You can use the leather strap to secure the watch to your arm. Since it has a sporty vibe, you can match this timepiece with any casual outfit in your closet. Since it has an oil tan finish, the watch also gives a classy feel.

Furthermore, a set of thick keeper loops lie on this elegant strap while decorative stitches stay at the top. Besides, each of these components come from the same material. As for the buckle, it consists of a deep engraving etched on the upper bar.

Drawbacks

Now, what have you learned from this review of the avi-8 hawker hunter? Well, you might understand the exciting design and its link to military-inspired aircraft. But as expected, some issues might force you to try out other options.

First, the company uses fake screws for its vintage dial. Next, it tends to measure time poorly, particularly after a long period. Moreover, the watch does not offer the ” advertised” water resistance level.

But if you choose to ignore these flaws, the Hawker Hunter stands as a timepiece that will grab all the attention. Overall, it comes as the perfect example of watches inspired by vintage military aircraft.

Should I Get AVI-8 Watch?

If are you looking for the best aviator or pilot watches for sale less than $1000, then you should consider watches from this aviation timepiece brand. But before you buy any of AVI-8 watches, ensure that your choice fits your lifestyle.

Most of the watches mentioned in ours might not on Avi-8 automatic watch review, but they offer great qualities and features.

Overall, you will love the standard of toughness offered by this brand. So if you prefer affordable pilot watches, AVI-8 has timepieces that will meet your needs.

More so, to support their diving ability, they are self-illumination so you can read time underwater or in dark condition environments.

Final thoughts on the best men’s rugged watches

From our review, we gave three timepieces to consider – G-shock Rangeman GW-9400-1CR, Suunto core all black men’s outdoor watch, Marathon search, and rescue TSAR military diver. All these watches are clear winners from industry leaders.

In our opinion, these are not only reliable, but their construction also allows them to resist almost all types of outdoor use and intense activities. They may be a bit costly because it is difficult to get one of the best men’s rugged watches in the market that wouldn’t run into problems at a cheap rate.
